Not good, sounds like some serious issues, he will probably be conpensated. There are only 2 things that I can think that can keep a ship locked to the dock and thats Engine troubles or an outbreak of some sorts.

My nephew got off the Ecstasy on Monday morning, and they didn't get into Galveston until about 10:30. That's pretty late...typically they're in by 7:00 a.m. at the latest. He said they were told "high winds and rough seas" but when I spoke to a porter while I was waiting to pick him up the porter said they had mechanical difficulties. Don't know what's right, but keep us posted! Thanks.

OK....I'm just curious....looks like the OP sailed on Ecstasy 2/07? How was she??? We just got off of Splendour of the Seas and I'd love to book another cruise for this same time next year and since Splendour is leaving Galveston, I've been looking at Ecstasy & Conquest. I've read some bad things about Ecstasy and was just wondering how you felt she was? We went on Elation in 06 and thought she was a nice enough ship, although we did enjoy our Splendour cruise more since we got to the ports we were scheduled to get to! :)

Look up my review (either on the Carnival boards or on the Cruise Critic Review boards) as I was just off the Ecstasy in March; she's a beautiful ship and I had a great time!

....sounds more like mechanical problems.....they would not board Sat and leave Sun if there was a health problem.

I will be on that sailing. The Itinerary Change notice was printed on April 2nd.

It says : We will delay the departure in order to complete a technical project during our stay in Galveston.

Considering the number of sailings since the letter was drafted, it can't be anything dangerous. It does say technical, not mechanical. So, who knows. We were alerted way in advance, so I suppose there may have been some that canceled. We will be compensated. So the great price I already had got a little better..:D

This is true! We board as we normally would. Drill will be at regular time.. It says all Hotel Services will be available. I am sure that the casino and shops will be closed until we sail at 6am the next morning......But, I don't see it impacting the dining, shows, or DOD's :D :p

When we've sailed from Galveston, the bartenders are permitted to serve a very limited menu of drinks while the ship is at the pier. Apparently, any cocktails, beer, and wine sold while the ship is still tied up is subject to state tax. So, not everything is available. Shiner Bock (brewed in Texas) is usually featured. You can't get the good drinks until the ship actually departs.

TABC (Texas alcohol and beverage commission) my best friend is a bartender here you have to have a licenses to serve you have to have TABC approved alcohol, you should see a label/sticker on all the bottles they serve you from, so some wont be approved so cant be served.

I'm not sure what taxes they're charging. I've never paid taxes on a drink at a bar or a restaurant. Maybe Galveston has a local tax on alcoholic drinks, but the state doesn't, unless every place I've ever bought one is rolling it up into the price.

I think taxes are rolled into the price of each drink already I do belive (correct me if im wrong and I will check with my friend later) the taxs are paid through the sticker on the bottles already thats why bars have to have the TABC sticker on each bottle or else they get closed down.

Shiner is an excellent beer, made in a small brewery in Shiner TX. Just because your tastebuds may not be refined enough to appreciate a quality brew doesn't mean it's not a "good" drink. It would make my day if CCL would serve Shiner throughout the cruise:)

I do like my shiner too its good stuff man. Many people dont like Shiner as it differs from traditional German bock styles. But this is texas baby, give me a Shiner any day. Dude you have to go to saltgrass steak house and get the Shiner beer bread and some steak soup man thats good stuff.

You are almost correct The sticker really has nothing to do with the taxes. I own a bar in San Antonio the sticker is just a control, Texas bars are only allowed to purchase liquor from distributors approved by TABC we cannot go to any liquor store and purchase liquor the stamps have a number on them which identifies when and where the bottles were purchased. Upon pouring the the bottle empty, the batrtenders have to scratch the number on the stamp off the botttle(leaving a small portion of the sticker on the bottle) so we dont refill the bottles with bootleg liquor it also helps the comptroller determine (based on the amount of bottles we buy) how much money we should make.( 28 to 32 shots per 1 liter bottle based on if your bar serves 1 ounce or 1 and 1/4 ounce shots) Taxes are included in the drink cost and we pay 14% to the state. because the the ship and port are all duty free areas Texas law should not apply and or effect what drinks you are served in port or out in the open sea.
