Gator83 Posted April 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2007 Has anyone recently stayed at the Hawthorn Suites in San Diego and if so what are your thoughts on this hotel? I have read some things on trip advisor that says the service is awful. Thank you

gratefulguy Posted April 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2007 Many/most cruisers stay closer to downtown/pier--Hawthorn Suites is on Hotel Circle. Although it isn't really far away, people who don't know the area may not want to stray from the bayfront area. I haven't stayed there, but since it probably caters to business people on an extended assignment, service may be very minimal by design. I have stayed at the ExtendedStay America (the one north of I-8), and because you have a kitchenette, most guests aren't looking for a full-service restaurant, etc. Hope this helps. mittenscat Posted April 23, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2007 We stayed at the Best Western BAYSIDE before our cruise Nov 2005 Good location. Good AAA price. you can walk to the cruise port. We were pleased with the hotel and would stay again. check their rates online
Gator83 Posted April 24, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Thank you for your replies but I really wanted to get feed back on the Hawthorn Suites as two couples are looking for a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite to share. I reserved it for two nights at $158 a night which I think is a great rate to split 2 ways.
gratefulguy Posted April 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2007 That is a good buy for your needs. Since there are four of you, a rental car would be cheap, too. That would make the location less important than for those looking at multiple cab fares! I can say that the Hawthorne Suites is set back from the Interstate a little more than some of the places on Hotel Circle, but you may still want to ask for a suite facing the hill. BTW, it is on Hotel Circle North and you should take the Taylor Street/Hotel Circle exit if you are coming from the airport/downtown area, headed East on I-8. There is another exit a little farther on labeled just Hotel Circle, but you would have to double back. You will be across the Interstate from two major shopping centers (Fashion Valley and Mission Valley), which have many restaurants, a "Beverages & More" to get wine/beer/liquor at good prices, and a "Borders Books & Cafe" for any travel books or maps you might want.
