QM2 Ascot Ball

Recommended Posts

Received pre-sailing transAtlantic registration documents which referred to "hats optional Ascot Ball". Earlier posting on this Board referred to passengers making hats for this formal night on board ship. Does one need to board with appropriate materials in order to participate, or are beautiful commercially made hats the norm (or preferred?) (Sounds like fun either way!) Can someone please advise? Thank you.

Cunard has a hat making get together one afternoon during the crossing. They provided the materials. Some of the hats were really cool. One lady had a very wide brimmed black hat, with a pink feather boa around it hanging down the back, with a model of the QM2 right smack in the middle of it.

Some passengers brought their own elegant hats, and some passengers made their hats at the hat making party. The hat making party was a lot of fun, but a little short on materials and enough scissors and glue to go around. The home made confections won 1st prize in the best hat contest - so if you're going after 1st prize, make your own!
