chasetf Posted April 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Hi everybody, I'm thinking about cruising in august on royal princess (the new one) in europe. Anybody knows anything about this new ship? stateroom, public area, how is big etc....Thank you and sorry for my english I'm Italian Welcome aboard ... and your English is fine. Being from Italy you may be familiar with some of the Royal Princess's original Renaissance sisters. There were (still are) 8 ships build for the Renaissance line that went bankrupt in 2002. Those ships are now sailing for a number of different lines (Oceania, Princess, and Pullmantur but now Celebrity). Oceania's ships are the Insignia, Regatta and Nautica. Celebrity's are the Quest and Journey which used to be Pullmantur's Blue Dream and Blue Moon. Princess's ships are the Tahitian, Pacific, and now the Royal (which used to be the Swan Hellenic Minerva. So if familiar with any of those ships, the Royal is pretty much identical. The ship is fairly new (built in the 2001 / Refurbished in 2007). She is 30,200 tons / 594 ft long / 84 ft wide. She carries 688 passengers with 373 crew. So by today's standards is pretty small. We have sailed the Tahitian Princess and I would rate her a step up from the standard Princess ships. She was build for the more upscale Renaissance line and has more real wood and less plastic. Druke I Posted April 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2007 The two Celebrity ships and Royal Princess are configured differently on Deck 8, not having the mini-suites of their sisters. Celebrity is remodelling their ships, but no plans have been announced (to date) to modify the Royal Princess. They are nice little ships. We've been on the Pacific Princess, Oceania's Nautica and Regatta, with another trip on Regatta booked.
LUVTOKRUZ Posted April 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Crenata, Attached, courtesy of Cruise News Daily, is a two day old (April 22, 2007) picture of the New Royal Princess (ex. Minerva II, ex. R8). This will show you how beautiful she is. It is still possible to do a virtual tour of the Minerva II through the Web at the following address: http://www.swanhellenic.com/virtualtour/aa000/spe.htm This will give you a good idea of her public rooms and her various types of cabins. For your information, Princess Cruises has painted her hull white and has added a casino on deck 5, along with minor general refurbishing. Enjoy!
