Sweet_Ireland Posted April 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2007 Do I need to book an excursion or is there "free" snorkeling available on the island?
heymom32000 Posted April 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2007 We found another couple on the ship to go in with us on a cabana then had the snorkeling gear as well as rafts/food/drinks/etc. to enjoy. If you don't do a cabana you can rent snorkel gear to use. We just stayed in the area in front of the cabanas and saw some small stingrays, sand dollars, and a few fish. The water is crystal clear and you can see the sandy bottom very well. Our tablemates went on down the island, around the rocky area beyond where the horses walk and snorkeled in that area. They said it was very pretty, lots of fish, and more interesting than our beach area. I really want to go back so we can go exploring more. truecruiser Posted April 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2007 snorkling is great by the black rock area, far left on the beach, past the waterslide.
cruzinnluvinit Posted April 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2007 The water is only around 3 feet deep right next to the rocks. You can go deeper but I don't think you will see a great amount of fish out in the open.

rotomu Posted April 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2007 The snorkle trip to the back side of the island is excellent. Some of the best shallow reefs I've seen. Great coral colors, sea fans, good fish diversity, lots of them.
CruiseNaked Posted April 28, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2007 THIS IS JUST OUR PREFERENCE, but when we go to cozumel, we rent a moped, explore the island, and find a spot that we like..........we've been there three times (one cruise, two land) and seen fish at each spot...... alwaysmomof1 Posted April 28, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2007 I brought my own mask and did my own thing. I also brought from the ship boxes of trix and was feeding the fish out of my hands. My DH and myself rented wave runners and the guide pointed out a shark. AWESOME PORT. I would love to go back and do nothing:D
BeachTeach Posted April 29, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2007 I'm going to HMC next March and I am so excited! It looks like such a beautiful island! I keep hearing about sharks. How common are they ? I want to snorkel but I don't want to see a shark. Maybe from a far or in a boat but not while snorkeling! :) Has anyone ever done a carnival excursion there? How much are all the water toys, calm shell, and cabana?

How much are all the water toys, calm shell, and cabana? If I remember right the clam shells were $15 and the snorking equipment was $18 wave runner was $65. The only reason I even seen a shark was the guide pointed it out to me. This is an AWESOME ISLAND. I would of been happy just lying on the beach! People were finding sand dollars right where everyone was swimming. I just got a thrill out of hand feeding the fish and seeing the shark. (It was on the back side of the island) Clam shells.........For my DH he is not a sun person and they are great for the shade but they have no air going thru them so they get hot!
