I didn't notice the drunks very much...and I do drink and smoke. I think the best way to tell the drunks on Ecstasy is when the ship is really getting tossed about- the drunks all walk in straight lines! As far as the smoke, this cruise (11-03-07) was MUCH less smoky than our first one. My wife and I really try to be as polite as possible when we do smoke- we try to smoke ONLY in the designated areas, and this time we didn't even smoke in our room. The room steward said this was a non-smoking cabin, as were all the rest on the deck (upper), so we went outside to smoke on deck, in the designated areas.

As far as the Lido goes, only the section towards the front bar, on the starboard side, was the smoking section. Talk about PACKED! That was a crowded and busy place, and there was never any seats available there, as the smokers on board were really trying to not piss off the anti-smokers by encroaching upon their territory.

People were LOUDLY complaining about smoke in the casino, and one anti-smoker came in and sat in the smoking side of the Society Bar and called the waitress over to ask us all to put out our cigars. The waitress told her that this was the smoking half of the bar (last cruise it was the whole bar!), and if she felt uncomfortable, she should perhaps take a seat on the other side, where it was non-smoking. She railed for a while, until one guy told her that this was one of three or four areas left that smoking was permitted, and that cigar-time with the boys was part of his cruise experience...would she mind not spoiling his cruise? She indignantly got up and left, and was later seen in the Neon Bar doing the same thing.

For all the anti-smokers, I really wish that people would start complaining about all the fattening food they serve on these boats, and the alcohol. I'd like to see a food-and-alcohol-free cruise! Only water. Make it 7-10 days. Obesity and alcohol are the most serious health problems in the USA right now, let's do something about it!

I'm not a smoker, but I say Right ON!! I have a problem with people like that. They think everywhere should be non-smoking. I mean come on, if not in a bar, and not on the lido in the fresh air, then WHERE? She would probably even have a problem with it if you hung way out over board to smoke!

These are non-smoking cabins? Wow, didn't realize Carnival went that route.

hey Fausto! Are you going to start slumming with us on the Ecstasy now that the RH is gone? It's really a nice ship, no RH, but nice.

Did you enjoy your RH trip through the canal? I don't think I saw a review from you.

Thing is, I'm seeing this kind of behavior all over everywhere now. Next overweight anti-smoker that starts chewing on me for smoking in a smoking area, I'm going to throw a box of donuts out in the street for them! I'm getting to the point where I'm going to start breaking all the little anti-smoker laws and light up in public bathrooms (probably smell better), out on public sidewalks, over at the bus station, heck, I might actually step outside the paint line in the smoker's box (that postage-stamp size piece of property they "graciously allow" for smoking employees to take their break in) and blow smoke into a store or something. Militant anti-smokers can shove it. I try to be a polite smoker and not smoke around non-smokers, then some anti-smoker @$$#@t actually has the huevos to chase me down, to invade one of the last bastions that a smoker has left, and berate me for choosing of my own free will to smoke? Excuse me? I cannot stand fascistic behavior, and this is a paramount example. The whole world is going absolutely insane.

In the words of "Fez" from "That 70's Show"- "I bid you GOOD DAY!" :D

I am not trying to complain about those that smoke, it is their right after all and I know that before I book. Our last cruise was the first on the Ecstasy and we were unaware of the seating arrangments int he dining room. We were also not able to get our seats changed for dinner...But now that I do know about it I can plan differently. And just fyi, I am not one to sit next to smokers and then have the audacity to complain. If I don't like it, I move. No grudes, no attitude, just leaving you to enjoy your cruise as I am enjoying mine.:) That's what its all about after all.;)

Although I don't smoke in my cabin, I do smoke on my balcony...when nobody is outside on adjacent balconys (unless they're smoking too!).

If these Upper Deck cabins have become "non smoking", it's a new rule that wasn't in effect in late July when I last cruised...

Actually, I wish that more had your outlook! I do understand about the cigar smoke drifting down into that dining room, though. There could be a partition installed for that purpose, IMO. That could be an inexpensive solution. But then, so could making the Card Room into a cigar bar.

Hi Ray, yeah it looks like Conquest and Ecstasy for us. Actually, we put together a large group cruise for March 31, 2008 on the Ecstasy. This cruise will be featuring the house guests from the CBS reality show Big Brother 8. We are also in the planning stages for an "Amazing Race" cruise later in 2008, featuring players from the reality show. A cruise with Willie Nelson is in the works for 2009.

Didn't make it on the RH for the canal cruise. Could not take the time off, due to commitments with my new company. We'll be sailing on the Conquest in a couple of weeks. I can't believe I've made it this long(7 months) without a cruise. I am soooo ready.

Have fun on your upcoming cruise!!

Fausto

Can anyone tell me if there will be a Past Guest Party on the Ecstasy 5 day cruise. If so do you know which night?

Thanks for any help.

I just went back and read my past two Ecstasy reviews on my Blog and I mention that it was on Cozumel night on the 1st one (I didn't go) and didn't even mention it on last years review.

So I guess they do have a past guest reception although I haven't attended. Maybe I'll go next week.

Yes, there is a past guest party on 5-day cruises. We just got off the Ecstasy yesterday morning (will be posting a review soon) and the past guest party was Wednesday night (after visiting Progreso that day). It was in the Blue Sapphire Lounge at 7:15 p.m. Travelgirl

Forget your worries about formal night protocol, forget your worries about the dining attire for the other four nights on the Ecstasy. Our 6th sailing on this ship ended yesterday and we saw the "anything goes" at an all time high.

If worrying about the dress of others bothers you then get ready for teens in shorts with hats on sideways every night, men in shorts and jeans on formal night, football t-shirts on formal night and more.

In addition, if you have a reservation for three in a cabin you might just get a cabin with two berths and a metal frame bed placed on the floor. The sleeping surface is about 6" above the carpet. This made for some interesting conversation and room changes before the ship left the dock.

Oh... and book the Jeep tour that makes the stop at the church, Mayan sites and the Reef Club in Progresso. We got one hour at the beach, and that involved 11 minutes to get a wrist band, 10 minutes for the soda line, 15 minutes for the food line (they had no clue the ship was sending that many) we cleaned our own table and had 17 minutes to enjoy the beach.

What makes this tour such a fun one is the trip to the cemetery on stop three where your kids will see colorful grave markers and memorials. The bad news? Some graves have no door them! Human bones and skulls are clearly visible.

Great family fun for $100 a person of your hard earned cash.

I did tour one of the two penthouse suites on the ship for the first time. Really nice cabin that you'd never discover without knowing about it in advance.

Sure hate to hear that.

Hope you enjoyed the cruise though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey I wondering. My stateroom is one of the rooms that shows up as a connecting room. Do the doors cause a problem. I won't be using the door and for all I care they can put a dresser in front of it. Is it in the way? Do you lose space because of it?

At least your honest....lol:D

what's bumping?

Well in this case it means that the thread was "bumped" back up to the top of the list so it doesn't fall back to the second page....

LOL yep that's me honest! I just didn't know if I didn't get an answer because no one knew, or if it fell to the second page before anyone saw it.

I'm thinking no one knows the answer, oh well I guess I'll report back after Jan and let everyone know.

No loss of space, dresser on opposite side. (BTW-it can not be moved)

Oh sorry. My mom and my friends had connecting room across from us. They had her bed made into a king right up against the door so they never opened it. Didn't seem like it was possible to move the bed but it worked out fine.
