KentuckyTraveler Posted April 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2007 In June we are flying from the US to Venice with a connection in Rome and then returning from Barcelona to the US thru Rome. Since this will be our first air travel in Europe, we wondered how much time to plan to clear customs in Rome on our connection. We have a two layover. Any experiences? swatts1 Posted April 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2007 We flew to Venice in January with a connection in Paris. Our luggage was checked through to Venice and we did not take it through customs until we arrived. In Paris we did have to go through a line and show our passports but that only took about 10 minutes.
cusyl Posted April 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2007 We booked non stop JFK to VCE with Delta so we wouldn't have to be changing planes in Europe. Do you have that option?

Since this will be our first air travel in Europe, we wondered how much time to plan to clear customs in Rome on our connection. We have a two layover. Any experiences? When you change planes in Europe your luggage will have been checked through and you will just go to your next gate and/or terminal..you will not go through customs, but will go through passport control which is no big deal. When you arrive in Venice you will collect your luggage, and then proceed through the customs area through the area that says nothing to declare, and out you are.The same will hold true coming back from BCN through Rome.Passport control may have a line, but just look for the line that says US or other passports and the line does move ok.You will go through customs when you reenter the US,and this can take a lot longer than anything in Europe:mad: .You will have time to get to your gate etc.with no problem...just follow the signs.Enjoy your trip.
