Any tips about the Kid's Club?

We will be sailing on the Grandeur June 29 with our 4 year old DS. This will be his 5th cruise (2 Carnival, 2 Celebrity). Is there anything we should know or any tips any other parents can provide about the kid's club? He is always worried about going, and then unwilling to leave! Having never sailed on RCCL is there anything we should know about that as well?

On the first night, there should be a sort of meet and greet type thing before the Adventure Ocean opens. It's a chance for parents and kids both to get to meet the staff and some of the other kids that will be in the program. The kids get nicknames and name tags and get to see how 'cool' the counselors can be.

When you register your child, in their age group, they have beepers to notify you if needed. So be sure to get one.

The night sessions in AO are themed, and each is usually different, (like pirate night) Activities are age appropriate in approx 30 min increments to accomodate younger attention spans.

I think if your child is generally used to a social setting, there won't be any problems. Most kids love going to AO. It's their time away from mom and dad's constant 'parenting'.

There are times the program will close for periods through the day, meal times for the staff. But some of these meal times are open to dining with the kids. Be sure to check which days they have it for dinner as you have to sign up. Should be formal nights. And the program closes at 10pm but they offer a group setting babysitting, where all the kids just play games, movie, or even 'camp out' till mom or dad comes for them. It's offered till 1am and costs $5 per hour. (same place, you don't have to move them at 10 when it closes.)

My son loves the program. Any other questions, holler. And have a great time.

If your son wants to join the AO group for dining on those nights when it is offered, be certain to sign him up early. They typcially announce the evenings when dining with the counselors will be available at the orientation session - you can usually sign up begining the morning of the day when the dining with AO event will take place.

One of the theme night is a pajama party - so make certain his fav pj's stay clean until that night (less of an issue for boys than girls I know, but DD 'saves' a pair of PJs for that night).

When your kids are in the 4-10YO age group - don't expect to see much of them, most would rather be in AO! Enjoy!
