Normandy Beach Tours

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes. We are interested in a cruise tour that includes a stop in France that would offer a tour to the Normandy beaches. I know RCI offers them out of LeHavre but is that the only port? Any info would be appreciated. We are looking to book a cruise for 2008.

Thanks, j

Any ship that stops in LeHarve should offer such a tour. We were on a Carnival in 02 that stopped in LeHarve, we rented a car and drove ourselves to the beaches. It was a very moving experience and one we will not ever forget. You can't get lost just keep the water on your right going out and on your left coming back. Most ships have a long time at this port for all the folks going to Paris.

Hope this helps.

Vicki

A tour out of Cherbourg might also work. Just returned in April from an all too brief week long dedicated WWII and WWI battlefields tour and can second the "moving" comment. A stop at the La Cambe German cemetry (commemorating+21,000) which is beside the main highway near the large US cemetry at Omaha Beach is also a very moving contrast to the style of the allied cemetries. You may wish to google Normandy Battlefield Tours or WWII Battlefield Tours and you will find tour companies and individuals. A driver that knows the routes, beaches , memorials and cemetries and gives you a continuous running commentary ( and can tell you which "museums" aren't worth the price) on a value added basis might be well worth the expense and for not a lot more than a car rental alone.
