Rare crewsweeper Posted September 10, 2009 #501 Share Posted September 10, 2009 HI Fellow cruisers! Our group doesnt really know what to do on Cozumel but would love to get a tour from Geri. How much does he charge hourly for the drive? Our ship arrives @ 11 Am til 8 pm. Maybe we can swing on over to PB to visit Tom too. Does anyone know a way to arrange with Geri if he is available? ANy help would be appreciated! LV Realtor...If you go back up through this thread and maybe only scroll back a page or two, you'll find the costs and email for Gerry. He charges more for the van than the car as he has to rent the van from another person. But if you email Mike Thompson at cozumeltaxi@hotmail.com he can answer re Gerry's availability and the cost. If Gerry himself isn't available on the day you're in Cozumel, his other driver, Lazaro may be. He's very good too. And yes, you can go to PB and see Tom. But remember, gErry isn't hired by the single hour. His price is for 4 hours minimum and then extra for additional hours. So if you just want him to go to PB, you're better off grabbing a taxi at the pier.
lvrealtorshawn Posted September 10, 2009 #502 Share Posted September 10, 2009 Hi Crewsweeper! Thanks! I was able to book Gerry for next week throught Mike. We figure that we had no plans at Cozumel and have the whole day to be there so we can take the tour of the island for a few hours, do some shopping and head over to PB. We are looking forward to meeting Gerry and our trip to Cozumel! -Shawn

simplycruizen Posted September 14, 2009 #505 Share Posted September 14, 2009 I've heard very little about the ruins in Cozumel. Are they worth seeing? Anyone have pictures? What about sea turtles? Anyone ever see them? I have been to Cozumel several times and have never seen them. What about butterfly's? Is Coconuts the best place with a view to eat? We have requested Gerry, but haven't heard back yet, so we are just hopefully waiting.
ChipA Posted September 15, 2009 #506 Share Posted September 15, 2009 We used Gerry on Sept 12th. He was as described. I would highly recommend him. Coconuts had a great view. I would suggest a drink and some chips with salsa there but eat lunch at Playa Bonita. Some say the prices at Playa Bonita are high but we ate traditional Mexican dishes and I thought it was reasonable. The view there was nice. Guys, be sure to check out the books on the bar at Coconuts. ChipA

ChipA Posted September 15, 2009 #508 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Thank you!! I don't understand the "books on the bar". There are a lot of books/photo albums on the bar full of pictures. Kind of helps explain the name of the place. ChipA

We have requested Gerry, but haven't heard back yet, so we are just hopefully waiting. We visited the ruins at San Gervasio with Gerry. After Altun Ha in Belize, they were not much to look at, but my husband had missed those and wanted to visit ruins. I've attached a few pictures he took- the third is of a lizard which we watched for quite some time. As for drinking and eating, we skipped Coconuts in favor of Playa Bonita, which was lovely and the food was great. Not expensive at all, and delicious! You can get a lovely table looking out at the ocean. There are lots of pictures from there if you click the link in my signature. You'll have a great day with Gerry! Half Hitch Posted September 29, 2009 #514 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I wanted to chime in and sing the praises of Gerry. He took my wife, mother, father-in-law and me for a tour this past Saturday and it was delightful. He speaks excellent English and offers lots of insight into the island that only a local would know, including history and politics. Perhaps the highlight was lunch at the restaurant at Playa Bonita directly overlooking the beach while a trio of musicians serenaded us -- with Gerry providing the vocals. Hiring Gerry is like visiting a friend you haven't seen in years who shows you his beloved hometown. The tour was very easy to arrange by emailing Mike Thompson at cozumeltaxi@hotmail.com and Gerry was waiting for us right at the pier. Looking back, my only regret about the day was not giving Gerry a larger tip!
medic123 Posted October 2, 2009 #515 Share Posted October 2, 2009 Just back from the Carnival Inspiration. We used Gerry in Cozumel. We had him for 8 hours. We took a tour then went bar hoping (love Coconuts), then went shopping. Gerry was an excellent guide, designated driver, and guard for our bags while we shopped. This was my third time using Gerry and it won't be my last. He is assumely fun.

Rosenbeans Posted October 28, 2009 #519 Share Posted October 28, 2009 If you go to http://www.cozumelinsider.com/ you can check out various tours they offer. We booked a 4 hour island sightseeing tour and Miguel was our guide and Antonio the driver. We had a group of 22 and they provided a nice air conditioned bus. I would definitely book with them again and request Miguel as a guide. They really did a great job for us!

linedancer Posted November 30, 2009 #524 Share Posted November 30, 2009 We were a group fo six and hired Gerry with a mini van. Gerry is wonderful. He will take you were ever you want and if you are not sure he will give you suggestions, If you want to shop tell him what you are looking for and he will take you to the right shop. He took us to a shop for Black Coral. The Black Coral was beautiful and not very expensive. Don't forget to ask him to sing for you. He has a wonderful voice. We ended up using Gerry for about 5-6 hrs. He is very flexiable as to what you want to do. Thanks Gerry we Love you Irene
