Cruise Critic Onboard Welcome Party

Hi, Kathy:

All of the Cruise Critic meet and mingles I've been to have been planned by the people on the roll call. Have you visited your roll call? Looks like there's a sizable group going. Here's the link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=454596

That would be a good place to post a question about whether there will be a get together and meet some of the people who'll be cruising with you.

Cheers!

Jayne

Thnx everyone. Wow, can't believe Carnival doesn't do that! On Celebrity we had nice room, drinks, cheese and crackers and someone to talk with us. My daughtrer went to Hawaii on Norwegian and her Cruise Critic party was great. She said they got special seatings at various resturants and all got bottle of champaigne sent to their rooms.

Royal Caribbean does them also and raffles over a bunch of stuff!

Yeah...For Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, they have a link right from these boards to a sign-up board on the RCCL or Celebrity websites...When 25 people sign up, they schedule everything for you...

For example, on Celebrity M-Class ships, they set it up for "Michael's" (the erstwhile piano bar) and they cater it bringing in coffee, tea, punch, pastries and cakes...and we've had a crew member show up and talk to us (usually the assistant cruise director in charge of Captains Club [repeat customers] or even the CD himself) and answer questions...and we have the room to ourselves for about an hour (usually like 11:00-noon on the first sea day--they're not needing it to function as a piano bar then anyway)...

To my knowledge, Carnival has NEVER done this...

Why do other lines? First, they probably recognize the value of Cruise Critic as a support group which actually promotes their business...Second, it doesn't really cost them anything extra to roll a coffee urn or two and a tray of pastries into the room (the same stuff they're giving away as "included" up in the buffet, right?

But, think, if 25 to 30 cruise critic members go to this thing and come away saying "that was really nice" and then talk about it on these boards and that discussion helps sell just one more cruise, THEY'RE the winner...and part of that cruise director's staff's job is to make us feel at home, answer questions and encourage a positive feeling toward the cruise line--this just gives them the opportunity to do that several passengers at a time...
