BengelaCruisers Posted May 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2007 If the previous cruise comes into port at 7am, why does it not leave til 10pm that night? What the earliest time they let us board in San Juan if the ship leaves at 10pm?
excalwop Posted May 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2007 If the previous cruise comes into port at 7am, why does it not leave til 10pm that night? What the earliest time they let us board in San Juan if the ship leaves at 10pm? One main reason is flights comming in from the Western US and Canada. Check the number of time zones and then add in flight time. Paul
Clubber Posted May 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2007 As above, the biggest reason is the flights. The earliest I've been able to arrive in SJU from the Midwest has been 3:50 pm. In addition, the Virgin Islands are close (60 miles to St. Thomas) and are frequently one of the first stops if you are traveling clockwise. If you are going the other way, then it takes about a day and 1/2 to get down to Aruba, so your first day is frequently at sea. We have boarded between noon and 1:00 pm for all of our cruises out of San Juan.
robinm918 Posted May 3, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2007 We were on Adventure last year and enjoyed the sailaway at night - the ship goes by Old San Juan and it's all lit up - it was really beautiful. If you get there early enough, you can have a good part of the day on the ship, which is what we did. Didn't feel rushed at all. Robin
