family cruisers Posted May 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Hi everyone, TGIF !! Dolphins Posted May 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2007 The more cruise lines that sail year round out of New York, the better the options and the lower the prices. Hopefully, they will put the brake on recent substantial cruise price increases.

Cassandra Posted May 4, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Yeah but watch the port fees tacked to the cruise lines hike up. Enviromental issues, waste disposal at the ports, boat traffic, icebreakers in the winter to get the ships out, pilot boats/security boat escorts, etc. That's what is driving prices up even as we speak. And NYC will bleed you for everything in taxes alone. Look at how many taxes you pay for a hotel room.

The port charges for NY are among the lowest on the East coast as is the cost of fuel(the refineries are in NJ)....Ice breakers are provided by the Coast Guard and are free to all. I guess they don't have taxes in CT....The hotels are full I guess its like Yogi Berra said no one goes there any more ...its too crowded.

It was less expensive for us to cruise the Crown Princess out of San Juan paying for air than it was cruising from Brooklyn and driving to the pier.
