mightymorsekey Posted May 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2007 I wonder if the change of regestry for P&O ships is down to Carnival saving money ! Does enyone know the reason for the flag change.
SpikeH Posted May 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2007 I believe that one of the reasons is so that they can have weddings on board as it is not legal on British registered ships. Mike
M62Man Posted May 10, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 10, 2007 Probably to do with saving money re employment laws. not sure but I think a flag of convenience allows greater flexibility re various legal requirements. Not sure how it works re employment but I presume a ship with a UK flag and a UK based company would/could come under UK laws. Maybe a precursor to changing from the traditional Goanese crews to other nationalities to save money and/ or change of officers, currently mainly from the UK? I hope not but Carnival is major PLC and has to keep it's shareholders happy - biggest costs fuel and labour.

SpikeH is correct in that the reason given is weddings at sae. However you will see that there is no 'flag change' as the ships are now registered in a British dependancy.
