Aug 4 Voyager Medieval Week in Visby

Misha,

We were on the Regent cruise that stopped in Visby on the last day of the festival, last year. It's like a Renaissance Faire in a way, although the people take it very seriously. The town makes a great backdrop for people in costume. There are working forges going, and other businesses that would have run back in the day, and people enjoy explaining what they are doing.

There are amusing anachronisms too, such as the woman in perfect period dress walking down the street, pushing a very modern baby stroller, and smoking a very modern cigarette! :)

We had no idea what we were dropping into, but all in all it was a very nice surprise. Enjoy!

We were on the same cruise at the same time two years ago and visited Visby during their Medieval Festival. Unfortunately we did not know about it beforehand and chose to go on the tour of Visby with the ship. It did not leave us enough time to enjoy the festival. So, I would look into another way to see Visby and spend a few hours at the festival. The festival was in walking distance from the port. Hope this helps.
