Majesty-why no balconies?

Yep. Majesty entered service in 1992 and at that time, only the deluxe suites on some ships had balconies (like Carnival's FANTASY class where only the Cat 11 demi-suites and Cat 12 suites had balconies ... 54 cabins out of 1028).

Majesty also has smaller-sized cabins ... standard cabins are 108 sf and "superior" cabins are 145 sq ft. Even the AB suite is only 235 sq ft.

That being said, cruising on Majesty is one of the last chances to cruise on a smaller ship of a mass-market cruise line....

Thanks everyone. I knew it would be an easy question for more experienced cruisers to answer. As a newcomer to cruising, I had no idea that the older ships didn't have balconies. You learn something new every day :)

Timing is the correct answer. The Majesty was built before the fad of balconies. The best class of ships to illustrate this best is the Costa Victoria, Pride of Aloha (ex-Norwegian Sky, ex-Costa Olympia), and the Norwegian Sun.

Yes, all three ships are sisters, based upon the same hull and propulsion plants, yet with each new ship in the class, more balcony cabins appear.

Initially, the Costa Victoria upon entering service in 1996, just 4 balcony cabins.

Today, most of two decks with balcony cabins. The Costa Victoria has 246 balcony cabins now.

Initially,Norwegian Sky upon entering service in 1999, most of two decks with balcony cabins. Today the Pride of Aloha has 257 balcony cabins.

Initially, Norwegian Sun upon entering service in 2001, most of three and a half decks with balcony cabins. Today the Norwegian Sun has 432 balcony cabins.

Over a period from 1996 to 2001, three ships of the same class were built with ever increasing numbers of balcony cabins, from just 4 to 432.
