greatmom Posted May 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2007 My son is wondering what is the situation with the pools on an Alaska cruise. Are they open? Can you swim? Will the water be cold? We will be sailing on the Norwegian Pearl. Thankx:confused:
shoreguy Posted May 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2007 He can swim if he is brave. The water will most likely be much warmer then the air - heated to about 80 F. From the Sun - one brave soul ;)
Tobintemp Posted May 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2007 The pools and the hottubs were open when we sailed last week. The temperature didn't get higher than about 10 degrees Celcius but the pools got a lot of use.
KeystoneCruiser Posted May 21, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2007 We did the Star to Alaska in 2005, (same itinerary the Pearl is doing this year.) and the pool was warm enough to swim the first two days of the cruise with no problems. The pools were open the entire time, but there was hardly anyone in them the rest of the week.
7SeasLover Posted May 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2007 There were brave souls in the pool almost the entire trip on the Pearl. Even in the rain there were kids running around, but they stayed mostly in the hot tubs. It was interesting to see bikini-clad gals and some other fellows get out of the pools/spas and slip into winter coats. Temps can be very cold and the wind chill is fierce at times -- when the Captain is chugging along at top speeds. Brrrrrrrr! Swimming is doable... for the brave at heart! I'll bet there were no problems with "chair hogs"!:D
