Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan tours

Hi gg, we almost booked Family Air for our trip but decided on Island Wings instead as they have a larger plane and I have a claustrophobia issue. I have to say that both Family Air and Island Wings were AMAZING in helping me with my 'condition' and I am now pretty confident that it won't be an issue. BTW, what date will you be in Anan? What ship are you on?

We will be in Ketchikan July 12 via the Zuiderdam. I love it there, and I just wish we had little more time to spend there. That is a big issue when you are trying to book any type of tour of 4+ hours and only have 6 in town. Wish HAL could take a few hours off of Skagway and add to Ketchikan. I do understand about claustrophobia. I have battled with this in a minor way.....like MRI's, clothing too tight around the neck, etc., but not in elevators, small rooms, planes, etc. I am so glad you got it resolved and yes, I do think that Island Wings is great. In fact, they did not have any permits left when I called and spoke with them, but they did rec. Family Air to me and I have been impressed with their style of business. I am so excited to see the bears.....can just hardly wait. Have you done a search of Anan on CC and looked at all the wonderful bear photos???? gg:D

www.familyairtours.com is another excellent float plane company in Ketchikan, just as Island Wings is.

sorry, but on the train...with the windows closed (due to the morning cold) it got stuffy, the pot belly stove was on..the ladies kept closing the window (that they opened to vent the stove)..most people were nodding off on the way back...

as much as the views are great...i would not do the train again. too long sitting down in one place. we like to DO rather then to SIT. i took the pictures, i saw the views...i got bored on the return trip....hubby fell asleep. he wasn't the only ones.

maybe if we had been on the same train car as his dad and sister..but they didn't tell us they were going and we missed sitting with them.

the other people in our car were very quiet, very little talking or excitement.

Cathi,

Thank you for your help,

I want to say that there are so many of you on here that have been and I am sure will continue to be an asset to this site. :)

I have heard from many people that the White Pass Rail trip is kind of a "snooze"...... I personally have not done it, but I also have heard it is more suitable to an older crowd.

I have to say that is kind of annoying to have certain people constantly giving answers who haven't even been to Alaska yet.

AND some of those who have, can sometimes come off gruffly and patronizing.

don't get me wrong...it really has beautiful views. outstanding photo ops.

it's sometime everyone needs to do at least once. but i can't sit long, have to move around and sitting on the train for 3 1/2 hours was just too long.

also, we had these 2 women that kept closing the vent windows..with a pot belly stove you need fresh air!! they were, also, ticked off because they didn't get the left side of the train car going up. in fact, i think they got on the train ticked off. it could have been a better trip with a happier group. but for us is was a snooze..at least the way back was.

i would rather spend all day on a boat...fishing or wildlife watching.

So if we decide to do the train we should try to get seats on the left?
