deciding to fly into the port a day earlier is a great idea.

You will arrive for your cruise refreshed and wont be suffering jet lag later in the evening on your first night. Check for biddingfortravel and look for reviews on the page for free shuttles to pick you up at the airport AND to the pier.

We are staying at the amerisuiteswestshore. They have shuttles going ot the pier and from the airport= also a free breakfast- but this hotel goes for 159. sometimes.

If you use priceline you can get a hotel with a free shuttle at the airport for 40 bucks. In the morning you take a cab to the pier for another 20 bucks-- you are still ahead of the game.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn in Ybor City, which is very close to the port that offers a free shuttle. Pretty decent hotel and they do offer a breakfast for a fee, but it is a wonderful spread. Good luck and have fun!

We stayed at the Days Inn Rocky Point in July. It was $49 per night thru Days Inn.com. Their shuttle picked us up at the airport on Saturday and took us to the port on Sunday at noon. (Arrange for Sunday time when you arrive). It is a nice location with the Green Iguana bar attached (rocking on Sat night, but we didn't go) and Bahama Breeze restaurant within walking distance behind the Hampton Inn next door. We had dinner there Sat night to put us "in the mood"...It was really nice...
