Is driving around Barbados a good idea??

We have been to Barbados once and really enjoyed our excursion which included swimming with the turtles, banana boat rides, and LOTS of rum punch. This time back to Barbados, we would like to see more of the island.

We are considering renting a vehicle (a Mini-Mokes?) and touring on our own. Just wondering if anyone has any experience doing this? Any suggestions? Any warnings?

thanks!

Yes ,do it. We rented a car last Dec. at dock from Drive a Matic. They gave us a good map and helped us to map out where we wanted to go. My husbands first time driving on left and he did just fine.Started of f North, Went by Mullins bay, stopped at oldest church on island St James 1600's. Stopped at many look out places for photo's headed over to west side. Gorgeous isolated beaches, surf to rough to swim but great places to picnic. Bathsheba was beautiful headed on to Crane beach , Climbed up steps to restaurant on cliff for a drink and appetizer.Bridgetown alittle tricky to get around but everyone helpful when we stopped for directions. Mr Barbados was very helpful answering questions before we left.

Have fun, Cindy

Hi Allen & Marguerita,

Driving is a great way to see this island but I'd skip the mini moke idea. With a regular car there is more security for your personal items. Mini mokes are not the safest mode of transportation. So unless you're thinking of mini moking for economical reasons rent a car IMHO.

Have a great trip!

You wrote "Climbed up steps to restaurant on cliff for a drink and appetizer".

I was under the impression that the only access to the beach was from the hotel/restaurant and down the steps. Is there another access to the beach aside from the hotel?

Nitnyleo,

We parked on road that led down to beach. We walked on some stepping stones on rocks to get there. We were unaware of the other entrance when we went. There was quite alot of construction on resort when we were there. You could probably park at resort if using restaurant. We went to beach first and decided to go up to restaurant for the view and to use restooms. Hope this helps.
