celebhol Posted May 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2007 What's the most smoker-friendly cruise line? We want to go where we will feel if not wanted, then at least tolerated.
travelgip Posted May 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2007 I've been on RCCl, Carnival and NCL. all seemed pretty smoker friendly to me. Stay on the correct side of the ship when smoking on upper decks. On the main prominade deck (covered outdoor deck, usually outside of where shops and main restaraunts are) it is VERY UNCROUDED!!!! Always one of my favorite smoking spots. Of course, there is always the casino and your room.
Cant Wait 4 Cruisin! Posted June 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Smoker here - sailing on Enchantment 10/4 - come and join us for a smoke!!!!
Solo Cruiser Posted June 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2007 All 3 of my previous cruises I was a smoker and think that Princess made appropriate arrangements for us to be comfortable. My favorite place to smoke was always the casino, even when it wasn't open for gambling. I would take my book or magazine or whatever in there and sit with my drink and ashtray... I was a happy camper. Now I no longer smoke so I look for smoke-free places. My next cruise is on HAL and I understand that they offer at least one night in the casino without smoking.. I'll be there.. LOL. One thing I found on Princess is that everyone seemed to be considerate of everyone else. Now those were just my experiences and others may be able to relate others. Oooh, your first cruise as a non-smoker. Are you nervous? I am now a recent ex-smoker and I am terrified for my next cruise.
Solo Cruiser Posted June 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Nah, I'm not nervous. I quit a little over 2 years ago and haven't slipped up since then. All the cliches I heard during my 34 years of smoking (you'll taste your food more, you'll feel better, etc.) turned out to be true so I've no desire to go back to it. I've taken land vacations since I quit and it hasn't been an issue so I think I'll do ok.

I am more motivated than ever to stay a quitter so I hope I really can. I am NEVER around smoke here - I was always the one smoking. I hope the cruise doesn't set me off. Solo Cruiser Posted June 27, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Just think of all the things you can do on this cruise that you couldn't before. Linger in the dining room. Go to all the shows. And the list goes on. Take a lovely perfumed spray for your cabin and use it there whenever you get the urge to smoke "inside." I'm sure you will do fine. One of my friends just mentioned the lingering in the dining room to me as well. Not just that, but all the money I am saving to go shopping and the fact that I can do things without being out of breath. I also won't get anymore dirty looks, at least not for smoking . I am a smoker, but found I smoke MUCH less on a cruise. Especially since no smoking in dining room. there's so much 'stuff' going on thinking of smoking often gets pushed out of your mind. I think you'll do GREAT not smoking on a cruise! Congrats and keep up the good work!
yellowbird23 Posted July 23, 2007 #11 Share Posted July 23, 2007 Personally, I have thought about taking a cruise to quit smoking. I think that would be an ideal setting as I wouldn't be able to buy any cigarettes onboard. Now, all I have to do is have the willpower to carry it out!
ancldaca Posted July 27, 2007 #12 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Sorry Patty... But on my recent AOS cruise, you could purchase smokes in the bars (single pack) while the duty free pushed it's 5 carton 'deal'. Actually, I'm surprised the cruise lines push these 5 carton deals. If I read my US Customs literature correctly, purchases on board count toward your 'international' cap where you can only bring back 1 carton (plus 4 from St. Thomas/Guam/Northern Marianas). To the OP: I guess RCI is a bit out of the question at this point, no? All kidding aside, of the majors, I guess Carnival & Princess figure fairly promoninently as being smoker friendly (within perfectly acceptable reason). Perhaps also some of the European lines like MSC and maybe P&O?

Congrats and keep up the good work! That was so never the case for me. It was so easy to smoke on a cruise because there are so many places to smoke and the cigs are so cheap to buy. My motivation to keep up the quitting is waning now but I still won't do it. I am enjoying the taste of my food (way too much) and love not coughing and being out of breath but the smell of smoke still doesn't smell bad to me. If I can make it until my cruise and not smoke on the cruise, then I will consider myself an official ex-smoker and one that never looks down or gives dirty looks or makes nasty comments to smokers.;)
