I understand from the ongoing Piano Bar thread that currently the Piano Man, Larry Maconaghey, has been on the ship since 10/18/08 and will be there until 7/8/09. Since I am a usually one of those people that hits the Piano Bar every night that it is open I would love to hear some feedback on Larry!!!

Just got off the Liberty today, and we spent most nights at the piano bar with Larry.

Talented piano player, involved the crowd (when there was one!), the only negative is his voice was not stellar, but to be fair, he seemed to coming down with something, and my son has no voice himself today...something was going around the ship. I was amazed at Larry's ability to play almost anything asked for, he never used sheet music. I have a diploma to teach piano myself, and I could never even approach his skill of playing by ear.

The bar waitress Maria was amazing, the piano bar was the highlight of the cruise.

I'm glad HomeSchoolMom had a good experience in the piano bar, but for our sailing, the place was a ghost town. We love piano bars and walked by every single night and there were never more than 2-4 people in the bar and they were sitting nowhere near the piano; usually off in a corner.

When we did wander in, there was no acknowlegment, and he kept singing (poorly). We didn't stay long. I wasn't expecting a hug when I walked in, but he didn't even LOOK at us! He was too wrapped up in listening to his own voice (imho).

There was a guy that played in the Casino Bar almost every night that was great, however. They REALLY need to upgrade him to the piano bar. That would have been a HUGE improvement!

Thanks for the Piano Bar comments. I know it can really vary from week to week. I actually sailed with Damien 2x = one was fantastic and the so I was disappointed the 2nd time when it was not that great. And it was no fault of his really but rather the large group of early 20's who came in very drunk and heckled and annoyed him all night long.

Would love to hear more Piano Bar experiences with Larry!!!!!

Would love to hear more about the Carnival Liberty ...

I am sailing on her next year ...

I cant wait !!

She is a beautiful ship. But it can take a while to figure out how to get to the Golden and Silver Dinning Rooms if your closet elevators are not in the right location. Strange that the dinning rooms are on lobby deck but you can't get from aft to forward on that deck. A lot of people spend the first couple of days frustrated trying to find their dinning room. So study the layout of where your room is in relationship to your dinning room before you go. Once you know what set of elevators you need to take it's a piece of cake. Hope you have a wonderful cruise!

the aft elevator is the only one that will get you to the aft dining room-

the forward and midship elevator will get you to the "other" dining room.

in the past the midship ding room was the later seating (6:15 and 8:30) But carnival is changing times for both ding rooms to start at the same time

I posted my ship pictures from a June 2006 cruise Liberty cruise.

They are under "June 2006 Mediterranean Cruise Carnival Liberty"

The next year in September I was on the new Freedom for the Greek island crusie from Rome to Rome.

Does anyone know if the Liberty has the "secret door" that the Destiny has that leads to the private deck? It was foreward on deck 6 or 7 on the Destiny.

yes it does- its a public access deck. Anyone can go out there.

Not so much a secret, just not very well known because it is at the end of a hallway where there is very little public traffic. On both Deck 9 and Deck 10, on both the port and starboard sides, you can walk down the hallway to the front, and there will be doors leading out onto a front deck. (The doors may say something like "Closed from Sunset to Sunrise" or "Caution High Wind" or something like that.) Nice place for viewing when entering or leaving a port. But very breezy when the ship is moving ahead a full steam.

We're going on 11/1 and I'm into the roll call thread as well. Does anyone know what the formal days are? Also what happened to gala midnight buffet? I saw that it was taken off the Sprit and Victory wnated to know about the conquest class? thanks

On the Carnival Liberty Eastern Itinerary, on Sunday and Thursday nights the suggested attire was "Cruise Elegant." No nightly midnight buffets.

Also decks 6 and 7. Not deck 8 because that's the bridge.

Quite right...we just got off the Liberty on the 13th...our room was 1003 which was very nice. Door to deck is to the right and does say "No entry after dark" and can be very breezy when "at sea days"...LOL. Not much traffic and nice quiet get away when needed.

As for midnight buffets...some nights had hamburg and hot dog servings but you had to catch the night. The 24 hour pizza area wasn't always open 24 hrs. And the final day grand buffet was eliminated due to cost saving measures but the second last day I believe, was chocolate dessert feast...and boy was it a feast!

 Trying to decide what time we should be at POM for Liberty in February. What time have you arrived at the port and then gotten on the ship? Two years ago in Fort Lauderdale, we were one of the first 100 and were on board by 11:00/11:30.

Thanks in advance

We were on the Liberty two years ago. In the buffet area, there was a stir fry station and a deli station. Is the stir fry still there? I had heard it was replaced by mexian.

Thanks, TeaLady

Yes it is still there- There are many stations. Most people hit the first station they encounter thinking its all the same.

Stir fry is only opened during 11:30-2:30 every day.

your tickets will state either 1-2pm when boarding starts.

Boarding actually starts as soon as the ship is cleared and able to do the processing. I'd rather wait at the port to get onboard. Always on by noon-right in time for the lunch buffet

you want to learn your way around using the deck plan which can be found on CCarnival web page.

there are two dining rooms- one midship one aft== if you have the aft dining room you gotta walk to the aft elevator and down.

if you walk past the pool there is the buffet which will have different stations---visit each one before you pick your food- people think that each station serves the same food-- it dont. Example is the stir fry station-- only opened between 11:30 and 2:30

you will aslo find the deli, fish and chips, the grill the pizzeria. many many options

does anyone know what movies were playing onboard?

Hello,

The cruise Dec 6th-13th showcased the Seaside Theatre on Deck 9 and it varied from movies to concerts, news and Live Shipboard Events. In the Carnival Capers which is delivered to your room nightly will list what will be playing on that day. Our listings included: "Don Henley"; "Deja Vu"; "Hall and Oates"; "The Spiderwitch Chronicles"; late night may feature football; concert with "Michael McDonald"; "Transformers"; "Pictures of Hollis Woods"; "Step Up"; "Peter Frampton Live"; "The Final Season".

Hope this helps...aloha!
