Carnival Liberty Thread - All The Info You Need Is In Here

We are booked on the 8 day Eastern itinerary :D Woo-hoo :D . I have two questions:

1. Any experience - good or bad - for timing return flights? I assume that the Liberty has "self assist" for those with early flights  .

2. Any recommendations for transportation to and from the airport. Taxis? Shuttels? Carnival transfers??

Thanks! ;)

For those of you who have done the 8-day Eastern, do they have one or two $15 laundry specials during the week? And did they give you one bag or two (I've always seen only one, but we got two on the Ecstasy last month). Trying to figure out ways to minimize packing without doing laundry myself.

Anyone know the answer to this?

On our last cruise we decided to do the Carnival bus. However, this year, we will get a taxi. Because we did the self assist, it took longer for the bus to fill up before it left. We sat & waited for over 45 minutes before it left. Perhaps that's not always the wait, but it was our experience. We thinking we could have taken a taxi & gotten there faster for about the same amount of money. The taxis are waiting right outside the terminal & the airport is very close by. You could either do a self assist or tell Carnival that you have an early flight.

we got a return flight at noon. I have family members taking the 11am flights and doing self embarkation. Personally feel safer taking the noon flight --jsut in case (we are flying during hurricanse season too)

check out www.cruisecal.com and see how many ships are debarking the same day as you will be-- that will determine how busy the airport will be

We are in the same situation, we have family memebers flying out at 11am & noon and our flight is at 1:50pm.

We were supposed to all be on the same afternoon flight time but 3 in our party were bumped and moved to earlier flights, nothing we could do to get them back on later flights, we were told they were all booked up.

The good news is, some how we will all be arriving back at LAX at 4:10pm all on different airlines.

Also Hurricane season.

Yes we are looking at a 12:10 flight home. That is a little earlier than I normally book - but I'm glad to hear that others have around noon too.

Thanks Serene :)

10:50 flight home?? How much was the taxi to and from the airport??

Thanks :D

20 bucks. Take the noon one. You are cruising in March-- high time sailing season-- give yourself a leeway-just in case.

the noon flight will still let you get your luggage out and be one of the last ones off after having a nice relaxing breakfast. You will be at the airport by 10am.

Did you find it really smokey in the piano bar bgul99 or have they figured out the ventilation? I quit smoking a few months ago and I want no temptation on this trip :-)

We hung out in the piano bar every night to hear Damian. He is AWESOME!! It is the place to be each night - he drew a regular crowd. We are non-smokers and while I thought it was a little smokey, it wasn't as bothersome as the casino - I literally could not walk through there. There is a ventilation system in the piano bar. It depends on where you sit. If you are seated between 2 smokers, it will be tough. If you are seated on the side of a smoker and the vent system is drawing it your way, that will be a problem too. You will need to play it by ear. Being seated away from the piano seemed to be less smokey, but then you aren't where the action is. During the day when it's empty, you can walk in there and there's no lingering smoke smell whatsoever, so I know they keep it to a minimum at night. Good luck and have fun!

We just returned from an 8 day on the Liberty and loved nearly every minute. However the trip was marred by an experience I had that involved the spa. Since we cruised in June, school was out and the ship was literally filled with kids. Easily 1/3 the ship. Most weren't a problem, but kids will be kids. The ship has several hot tubs and they were filled daily with kids. The problem was the behavior. Some kids felt the need to do "cannonballs" in the hot tubs and have splashing fights and they actually chased my 16 year old out because he couldn't stand it.

In an effort to avoid this, I escaped to the spa each day before dinner to relax in their whirlpool. The spa rules are posted clearly - no children under 12 can use the facilities and children 12 - 16 must be accompanied by a parent. This was observed until the final few days of the cruise. We entered to find an elderly gentleman with a very young child in the whirlpool - no older than 6 - but could have been 4. Grandpa encourged the child to jump in and swim to him - over and over. We endured the splashing and in and out for over 1/2 hour - I was hoping he'd get tired and leave, when I noticed him gesturing to his wife out in the workout area. She had the granddaughter - age about 9. When I saw that granddaughter was working out on one of the machines, I became alarmed. Then another couple entered the spa with 2 more children, age about 8 & 10. That was it. I left the spa (my husband and son stayed behind) and confronted the spa manager. She acknowledged that no one under 12 was to be using the spa facilities, and she would deal with them. (despite the fact that you must pass by the front desk to enter the spa, and they were obviously observed entering)

I went back to the cabin to shower. About a half hour later, my husband returned and said no action was taken and no one confronted the adults with the children. They saw someone with a clipboard walk by while the all the children were still in the whirlpool, and the little girl was still working with the machines, in full view. Ms. clipboard walked through and left. So, I went to the purser's desk to make a complaint. The purser was very apologetic. She called and spoke to the spa manager. The manager stated she checked the spa and the only children in the spa were teenagers. WHAT A LIE. I am a mother and I can tell the difference between a kindergartener and a teenager. When the purser begged to differ with the spa manager, the manager HUNG UP ON THE PURSER! The purser was very embarrassed and apologetic. She filed a formal complaint against the spa, which is managed by an outside company and is not part of Carnival Cruise lines. They are Steiner Beauty Products Inc.

So, if you are looking for a relaxing, quiet time away from kids for even a half hour, you won't find it at the spa. You may have to fight with a youngster to use the machines as well, if they don't hurt themselves first. They are risking huge liability by refusing to observe their own policy. I know it was a huge turn-off for me, and while I had planned on spending the last day on board being pampered in the spa, (they were running lots of special deals on services) I decided to take a pass.

Great question!! Inquiring minds want to know...lol :D

The question was paying for popcorn at the movies on the big screen on the lido deck. We never bought the popcorn, but I can tell you we never used cash for anything on board the ship. (except for the laundry facilities and some of the slot machines in the casinos - those take quarters) You use the sign and sail card for everything. I don't even think the bartenders or anyone has cash.

They broadcast movies and concert footage nightly. The soundsystem is incredible - especially for being outdoors. It was a popular stop and very relaxing to sit and watch the big screen after sunset.

We just got off of the June 9th 8 day Liberty Cruise. We found the PIANO BAR way too smokey. This was our second Liberty Cruise and this is how it was both times.

We loved the small sports bar. Usually very empty. So not a lot of smoke. We held our second meet and greet there.

Yes they had one $15 deal 2 days before disembarkation. I don't know about the extra bag. I'm sure if you asked your steward, they would bring an extra. But then leave an extra tip ;) They had self serve laundry facilities on each floor - 4 washers I believe, and 6 dryers. But only one ironing board. It was a popular spot near the end of the week.
