Aug 1st/public holiday in Jamaica?

Just found this out, on the day I am going to be in Ocho Rios...I was planning on going to Jamaica Grande Sunset Beach, but was told about the public holiday and that it may not be possible to enter for the day.

I am travelling alone, any suggestions where else I can try, or maybe I will face the same issues wherever I go? Anything near the ship? Thanks.
