Anyone been to Gilligan's Island in Nassau?

Has anyone been to Sand Cay in Nassau, better known as Gilligan's Island? We're only there in Nassau from 7-2 on our upcoming trip in 19 days, and we're curious, is there a way to get there, or at least somewhere on Nassau you can take a picture of it from? We don't have much time left before we go, any responses are appreciated.:)

Sandy Cay is privately owned and not open to the public. You can view it from a distance from Blue lagoon, Pearl Island or Rose Island. Flying Cloud and Seahorse adventure sometimes sail within a photo op distance, but that depends on the weather.

Don't know of any tours that are allowed on the property.

BTW.. Sandy cay was recently sold for just over $2.6 million dollars.

Here's some pics taken from Rose Island

Is there a way to get to blue lagoon, rose island or pearl island on our own so we can get a picture or 2 that's fairly inexpensive or do we need to book an excursion that goes to one of these islands? I don't think the ship has an excursion to any except for Pearl Island.

Excursions only. These are all privately owned islands. No ferries or easy travel options

If you knew what to look for you might even be able to get a glimpse of the island in the distance from the cruise ship.

Head to the easternmost part of the deck.. look out to the east.. far beyond the Atlantis and beyond. you'll see the blue lagoon sliver of an island, and Rose Island with the Sandy Cay far in the background between them.

here's a map. Your port is at #7 .. and sandy cay is the tiny island in the upper right.. just falling off the page. Certainly not a photo op. but you could say.. you saw Gilligans Island.

You can also see it in the distance from the Water Tower on the hill Downtown nassau.

Pearl island is that little sliver just above Anthol Island. It's a tiny coral island with a lighthouse (great views) owned by Eddie Murphy and a local businessman.

Here's some pics.

It's a very small island with a nice little beach.. stingrays and snorkeling off the back of the island. Usually a pretty short day trip. About 3 - 3.5 hours total. I think the cruiseship should have a tour via the TIki boat.

Here's a shot I found on webshots .. it's a pic of Sandy Cay taken from Pearl Island. Gives you an idea of the distance.

You have been most helpful thank you so very much for your time.:) The only excursion to blue lagoon is a dolphin encounter. They have a Pearl Island snorkeling excursion, and a stingray encounter, but haven't seen anything for Rose Island.

Flying Cloud , Seahorse adventure and Barefoot cruises all USUALLY go out to the reef between Rose Island and Sandy Cay.

Do a search online.. they are easy to find.

Robinson Crusoe does an all day cruise with lunch.. which probably won't be within your timeline.

Ritz Carlton is currently building a huge resort on Rose Island, so tours are limited. They've bought off most of the beachfront, except the parcel owned by the women who has the Robinson Crusoe contract and a few others that are allowed to access the reef from the beach.

Soon it will be off limits to all tours. It's the last piece of true paradise within a short distance of Nassau and the cruise ships.

If you get the chance to experience it.. go for it. It's breathtaking.

No commercialism.

I ran across a tour group by the name of BornFree that advertises a sightseeing tour that includes a picnic on Rose Island, and views of Sandy Cay, hopefully they will e-mail me back with some rates. Ever heard of them?

Yes, they are reputable, but i think very pricey. THey are mainly a fishing charter, who will also private charters. Unless you are sharing the expense, you're picninc will probably cost about $500 for 1/2 day.

Did you look into Flying CLoud or Barefoot cruises?? They are reasonably priced and might fit the bill.

Flying cloud has the 3 1/2 hour daysails at 9:30 & again at 2 for $60 pp, however, they don't do the morning daysail on Mondays, and that's the day we'll be in port.:( Can't do the 2:00 one, cause we have to be back on the ship by 1:30.:( I did put an e-mail into barefoot this evening, we'll see how that goes, & keep our fingers crossed.

Check Seahorse.. they may have a morning sail.

Pearl Island may be the closest you get this visit.

You can always come back and visit us again.. with more time to see an explore the things you really want to enjoy.

Lots to offer in and around Nassau.. and a quick flight from most US hubs.

born free e-mailed me back, said they dock right off of Sandy Cay, and I could go for a short walk on it, then off to Rose Island for a picnic, for the price of a half a day charter (up to 6 people)......... $500-700.00:eek: Don't wanna walk on it that bad. That would be cool for a half day charter if we were into fishing and had friends going with us, but that's not the case. Barefoot e-mailed me back and the particular day we're in port, they are closed part-time for vacation and are not offering their regular bookings, only half-day charters for $790.00.:( I've e-mailed seahorse also, we'll see what happens.

You can check with Bahama divers also. They do a shallow reef snorkel or dive from the nearby reef. (not sure if they still do this). Doesn't hurt to ask.
