Visiting Hamburg

Recommended Posts

I will be visiting Hamburg on QM2 with my mother in law in July. A trip to Berlin (which I previously did with DH a couple of years ago from Golden) would be out of the question since it would be a very long and tiring day and she has slight mobility problems.

There are a couple of shorter shore ex for Hamburg that would not be too strenuous ( river trip,Rathus visit etc). Has anyone done any of these?

Any other suggestions? - this is our only port of call on this 4 night trip and we sail late. Would it be worth considering getting a taxi from the port to explore Hamburg on our own?

You can easily move around in Hamburg on your won. Taxi are readily available as is good system of public transportation. As in any big city there are so many options what to see that you will need to choose something. Regarding the sights you mentioned: The Rathaus is right in the centre and can be visited individually. From here you could stroll to the "Landungsbrücken" where probably many people will celebrate the visit of the QM2 and where you get a boat tour or visit a museum ship.

We did one of the Alster Boat Tours the last time we visited Hamburg and really enjoyed it - beautiful scenery - cruising along quite narrow waterways (once you cross the small lake) past beautiful homes in park-like surroundings.

This is their website http://www.alstertouristik.de/

The website for Tourist Information in Hamburg. It has lots of info re what to do there.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

as the thread is divided into two local areas:

One part of my answers are here:

Just for your impression:

The distance between Hamburg Cruise Center and City Center are very short.

You can make it easy by following the signage:

It's less than a mile to Town Hall.

There is an info-point at the left exit. And as you can see the taxis are waiting outside in front of the terminal.
