My DW and I will be going on the Holiday with Carnival in January for our first cruise. I have read a lot about how everything is charged to your card, but what about the casino? Can you only gamble with the cash you brought or can you only use the card, or both?

usually the casino have a regular cashier's cage. they can get money from anywhere. they can charge your room account, cash advance off credit card...they are very good about money. the casinos usually have a ATM machine to use, but the charges to use it are very high.

I'm in big trouble if they ever start letting you use your seapass in the slot machines:eek: You can get a cash advance with your seapass. But, I always have a seperate budget for the casino and use cash only.

So to answer your original question. Yes you can use cash in the casino and you do not have to charge it to your seapass.

You can use your sail and sign card in the machines to download credit (it will be charged to your card) but they will charge you a 3% surcharge. Also if you don't want to cash out you can upload your credits back onto your card. ( the casino host will show you how this is done)

You can also go to the cashier and get cash with your sail and sign card(also a 3% surcharge)

Or you can simply use cash:)

They do have ATM's also...........

Have a great cruise!!!!

I would also like to add, for every 1,000 points (on your card) you will receive $10.00 cash to play with.

This is also done by downloading it to your card.........

Hi Karl, and welcome to the boards.:) You might also want to come over to the Carnival forum for everything specifically about Carnival:

I've had four wonderful cruises on the Holiday, and she remains my favorite ship! I always take CASH to use in the casino, and I only play the quarter slots as I'm not a big gambler on cruise ships. (I do enough of that at home.)

Just mainly wanted to say hi and I hope y'all enjoy your first cruise. I think you'll really like the Holiday!:)

Can any one tell me the hours the Casinos are open ? Going on our first Cruise on the Pride, 7/15/07. Thank You again for all your info, and help.

Rhys

The casino will be open when the ship is in International waters. That means it will be closed in every port until you're about 30 minutes-1 hour out (generally).

I'm never up late enough to see what time they close at night, so a "night owl" will have to answer that question :) !

Closing time is dictated by the crowd. Last cruise I woke up early at 4:00 am and the roulette table was still going with a couple of drunks playing.

I play craps and a lot of time only 1/2 of the table will be open. You can get an advance at the table or cage but doublecheck the charges for doing so since I have not seen any consistency sometimes a %, minimum charge or a flat fee. In addition, ATM fees vary by ship as well and some don't seem very excessive. The only time I've taken the advances was when I was too lazy to go the cabin for my cash.

Don't hold your breath on obtaining credits on their players card when playing table games. The employees in the casino are normally not up the skill level of Vegas or the like. When they rate your play, I'm not totally sure they give you a benefit of a doubt. Last time I used their card, I asked why the point total was so low and they said my average bet was something like $5.27. I normally open with a $5 bet but after the first roll, back that bet up and will have anywhere from $40 to $100 out. Long story short I just said thank you and don't even mess with the card anymore. It may work fine if you are a slots player as they can monitor the acutal dollars spent.

I do enjoy the casinos on the ship they are just a little different in atmosphere but a game is a game regardless. Have fun......
