How formal is formal night?

I keep hearing conflicting thoughts on this. We leave for our Alaskan cruise tomorrow (flying in a couple of days early). How formal are the formal nights on an Alaskan cruise. I don't want to dress up, or down, too much for the occassion. I would appreciate anyone sharing your experiences. Thanks!:o

My wife always wears a gown and I wear a tux. Hope that helps

I wear sparkly tops and dressy trousers with evening sandals.

Mr. Man only went once, and he wore a suit.

Personally, I think you are more likely to "fit in" if you dress up instead of dressing down. That's not to say that everyone dresses up....just that this is what the formal nights are for so it will be those who don't dress up that will be/feel out of place.

I would be willing to bet that on an alaska cruise, with a potentially more mature fellow passenger, that there would be more that are dressed up formal.

Just came back from the Conquest and it's completely what YOU want.

 

I would think a nice suit with tie and jacket would look very nice. Don't know about Alaskan cruises but the who "must be in tux" motto is not so.

 

I saw more suits than anything. Maybe at the most 15 men in tux. And they were like 55+
