Carmic Posted June 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2007 The web site says that tickets must be purchased in advance. Has anyone done the hop on hop off bus tour without purchasing the tickets in advance? Can you purchase them when you get into port? Thanks, Carol
Rare carlmm Posted June 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2007 Which company are you looking at? This is an example of one that allows you to buy tickets upon arrival. http://www.hamburg-city-tour.de/stadtrundfahrtene.htm Please not that the "port" mentioned in descriptions is not necessarily where your ship docks. Rare carlmm Posted June 17, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2007 Viator is a third party who would get the tickets for you. This link http://www.hamburg-magazin.de/st_rfahr1.htm is only in German, sorry, but it says that you can by tickets for the red double decker on the bus, at the touristinformation and in many hotels. Rare HeinBloed Posted June 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2007 There are two operators in Hamburg. Beside the a. m. there is another. The Red Doubledecker runs live speaking tours in English and German every 30 minutes. Tickets (15 EUR pp) are available directly with the driver. So you must not board at Landungsbrücken (Landing piers) or Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) and can join the tour close to Hamburg Cruise Center. Currently they start at 9.30 hrs at Landungsbrücken every 30 minutes until 17.00 hrs. The schedule is here. The grey columns are only for days of special events. Red and white is the regular schedule when they run every 30 minutes. 6 minutes past the hour or 1/2 hour the bus starts from Auf dem Sande - Dungeon - Gewürzmuseum (Spice Museum) This point is about 10 minutes away from Hamburg Cruise Center. Follow the sign to Rathaus (Town Hall) but do not cross the bridge and go left. 16 minutes past the hour or 1/2 hour the bus starts from St. Annen - Zollmuseum (Customs Museum) This point is about 8 minutes away from Hamburg Cruise Center. Follow the sign to Rathaus (Town Hall) but do not cross the bridge and go right. If you exit the Hamburg Cruise Center go to the left (SAP-Building / Way to City Center on picture) - there you find this sign: It will take you on a pedestrian bridge. Do not walk on the bridge. Just go left or right as a. m. to find the bus stop. Maybe you should right which ship on which day you arrive in Hamburg to make sure that you will berth Hamburg Cruise Center. Some ships do berth at Überseebrücke but this is just 5 minutes away from Landungsbrücke (the original starting point of BOTH lines). In some extreme situations other berthes are also possible. Have a great day in Hamburg Willkommen in Deutschland Welcome to Germany Regards, HeinBloed
Carmic Posted June 17, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted June 17, 2007 Thanks so much for all your information. I have printed it out and will refer to it when arriving in Hamburg. Will also check out where our ship will dock. Carol
