A few quick questions

Hi!

So, I've read quite a few threads (been lurking for a week or so) and I have a few questions I haven't seen addressed....or if they have, my mind was overwhelmed with all the great info and it got lost ;)

I'm going on my first ever cruise....Friday (a quickie on the Paradise)! Thanks to these boards, I'm already planning my next one :D

But, before I go:

  • What's the tipping etiquitte onboard, above and beyond the S&S card? Let's say I have a kickbutt bartender, what's the best way to show my appreciation?
  • Do the casinos close at night?
  • How casually can we get away with dressing in the dining room (we're NOT doing the Captain's Dinner)....will khakis/jeans and a polo shirt be okay for DH? Capris and a blouse for me?
  • Where would I find the forecast for the cruise? It seems like it may be cool, but I can't find anything via google that would help me get the temps for this weekend.

Thanks so much!

Hi!

Welcome.

  • What's the tipping etiquitte onboard, above and beyond the S&S card? Let's say I have a kickbutt bartender, what's the best way to show my appreciation?
  • If you think he's that good, tip him extra whatever you feel you need to.....$3-5 ?... according to how long you sit at the bar! Remember that an automatic 15% will be added to all drinks anyway.

  • How casually can we get away with dressing in the dining room (we're NOT doing the Captain's Dinner)....will khakis/jeans and a polo shirt be okay for DH? Capris and a blouse for me?
  • While jeans are not forbidden, they aren't really appropriate for a formal dining room setting - on any evening. Khakis and collared polo would be fine for DH, you're good to go in nice capris and blouse.

Thanks so much! Hope it helped a little. I enjoyed my Paradise cruise a coupla years ago. Bon Voyage!:)

Welcome :D

You can put extra tips on the S & S account or you can just give him some extra $$.

Casinos probably close sometime for cleaning, but they are open very late, times will be in your Capers (newsletter)

You can wear "resort casual" on nights other than captain's dinner. you will get a million different opinion on this question. Wear what you you think is resort casual and enjoy...and yes, jeans are not forbidden even though some will tell you they are.

Weather? Why? You can't change it. Go with the flow and you'll have a great time.

Hi Sue!

Tipping is at your discretion, so tip as much as you like. When I get great service, I tip extra and often -- $2 here, $5 there -- and for that reason always carry lots of smaller bills.

The casinos close at some point, but I'm not sure how late.

We wear khakis or chinos, polo shirts and tees, just about anything casual. I've seen jeans aplenty. Capris are just fine. :)

Try checking the temps for your origin and destination ports in weather.com or some other weather service. I've seen other weather tracking sites linked in threads here, but never bookmarked 'em. Sorry. :(

Hope you have a great cruise!

As for the weather - it's hot, hot, hot here in Los Angeles this week (getting hotter as we approach the weekend). Catalina and Ensenada are likely to be a bit cooler (80's instead of 100's), but definitely pack for summer weather!

Have a great trip!

My dh is big on tipping so he always carries $1's around with him, even though they are automatically tipped 15% on your S&S, I don't and receive the same service. We tip our cabin steward extra and our waitstaff. It is completely up to you on how much or how little you want to tip, you will get many different opinions. Get on the ship and make up your own mind.

On formal nights me and my dds wear cocktail dresses and dh wears a suit and tie. All other nights in the dining room we wear capris and dressy shirts (have attached a pic of my dds on a non formal night) and nice shoes or more casual dresses (like sundresses) and dh wears dockers and polos and something like deck shoes. As the above poster said, you will get many different opinions on the jeans question. I personally like my dh to leave the starched Wranglers at the house :D so he does!

Not touching that weather question with a 10 ft pole:eek: Waaay too superstitious :p

Have fun!

:D Thanks for your help!

I was curious about the weather---wanted to make sure I packed at least something warm enough...I've since added a jogging suit for DH and a sweater for myself.

thoneycu--how cute are the dd's! Their attire is similar to what I packed.

Thanks again for all the info
