captains party cocktail party?

Is there a difference between these two? And if so what do they consist of?

There is a Captains cocktail party, or welcome aboard party. it is usually on the first formal night so everyone looks their best if they want pics. What they consist of...waiters carrying around trays of drinks and hors douvres. You can also order whatever you prefer to drink if it isn't on the trays. No charge for any of this. If you are a returning cruiser there is a Past Guest party on Carnival cruises of 5 days or longer. Have a great cruise.

It depends on the cruise line. They all pretty much have the Captain's Welcome Aboard party in one of the larger venues. It's there you get a free drink and tidbits of food. On some lines, those who are frequent cruisers or have reached a high cruise milestone will be invited to a Captain's Private Cocktail party, usually in his quarters. I've done that several times on Crystal, but never on a mass market line.

Thre are many cocktail parties druing a cruise.

The most obvious ones are:

Captain's Welcome

VIP Party

Frequent Cruiser Reception

On top of that, the suite occupants usually have one, two, or three different parties.

The Captain usually has a few people over to his stateroom for drinks on one or two nights .

The Hotel Manager usually has one or two private parties every week in his quarters.

The Chief Engineer usually does the same.

If there is a VIP Group onboard, there is sometimes a special party for them.

On rare occasions the F&B Manager holds a special reception in a store room, galley, or in the laundry.

Penthouse, Owner's suite and other top end cruisers usually hold special parties for senior officers and friends.

When we first started cruising we would never miss the Captain's welcome aboard party. Nowadays we never go. They are way too crowded with watered down drinks. We will occasionally attend the Diamond/Platinum gathering depending on when it is. If it's during happy hour in the CL that's where you'll find us. :D

Hi Mamap. Looks as if you'll be on the Carnival Imagination. The Captain's Welcome Aboard party is held on the second night on board the ship, which is commonly referred to as 'formal night'.

The party is nice, and you have an opportunity to meet the captain and cruise director at the entrance to the party. Waiters will be walking around w/trays of hors d'oeuvres, wine, and cocktails.

The ship's orchestra will be playing in the background. At some point, the cruise director will go on stage and introduce the captain...who in turn will introduce the ship's officers.

It's a nice party. Held an hour or so before your dining time. Enjoy!:)

I agree.........first 6 or 7 cruises we never missed one.........last 6 or 7 cruises we haven't gone for the same reasons you list........and besides, it saves us buying another picture:)
