Admiral Horatio Nelson Posted June 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2007 RCI seems to be getting a reputation for people throwing themselves overboard. Maybe it's the food?
Sandytoes Posted June 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2007 Being it happened on the Freedom of the Seas You can read about it on this thread http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=574960&page=
sackman Posted June 21, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2007 I'm convinced that there is a correlation between the advent of private balconies and increased occurences of people falling overboard. People get drunk and just fall off. And because it's in their own room, there's probably not anybody around to see it happen, thus decreasing the liklihood of the person being rescued. papermans Posted June 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2007 Nope. Not the food. It is always very good.
chasetf Posted June 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2007 RCI seems to be getting a reputation for people throwing themselves overboard. Maybe it's the food? I hope they are not trying to overtake Carnival for the lead in the "Men Overboard" category. I'm convinced that there is a correlation between the advent of private balconies and increased occurences of people falling overboard. That is an interesting observation. Certainly gives people more "opportunities" for being "at the rail".
happyscot Posted June 22, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 22, 2007 I keep telling you people. I wish you'd listen. Falling overboard is perfectly safe. It's LANDING that is the problem. :p
seadrifter Posted June 22, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 22, 2007 From the Associated Press article... "Cruise lines reported at least 24 missing people from 2000 to 2005, compared with the estimated 10 million passengers that travel every year." At least the article ended with the above statistics. That gives some perspective to the situation instead of making it seems like people are always falling overboard. Virginia
rebeccalouise Posted June 22, 2007 #9 Share Posted June 22, 2007 First George Smith falls of Brilliance and now Brent Smith falls off Freedom. I don't think that the Smith family should be allowed to cruise.

Northender Posted June 22, 2007 #11 Share Posted June 22, 2007 You would have to be pretty top heavy to fall over a ship railing.:D Why would you pay all that money for a cruise and then go overboard on purpose. :p
jbrambach Posted June 22, 2007 #12 Share Posted June 22, 2007 You cannot just be standing on your balcony and "fall" over the side. You would have to be either leaning over the railing or climbing on a chair, table railing etc to go over.
