Marriott Stellaris

I just reserved a room at the Marriott for next March. When reserving, it asks how many guests per room. I put 4 (me, DH, and 2 DD's). At the final tally, it says $50 extra charge for additional adults in the room but children may be exempt. So I emailed them and asked if that charge would come off and they responded, "The additional person charge applies to all guests staying in the room who are twelve years and older. Please accept our apology for any confusion you may have experienced regarding this issue." Now I'm really confused. My daughters will be 12 and 14 at the time. Are they charging extra for them because that's what it sounds like to me. The room says it can accomodate a maximum of 4 people. It's not like I'm asking them to bring in an extra cot. Call me cheap, but this hotel is expensive as it is so I really don't want to get stuck paying an additional $50 for the room. Am I reading this the wrong way? Thanks for your help. :D

Yeah, it seems that they are charging your two children extra. Although the room takes a maximum of 4 people, the room rate originally quoted was quoted for 2 persons only, hence the additional $50 for each additional person over the age of 12. Confusing email, but that seems to be the typical hotel policy. I'm not familiar with the Stellaris, but perhaps they try to justify the additional $50 with any additional amenities provided by the Stellaris, such as breakfast, poolside services, etc.?

I just recently stayed at the Marriott Stellaris Resort and Casino. Boy do they add charges here and there on the bill. There is a $5 per person per day room charge as well. That's an extra $20 per day tacked onto your bill right there.

This hotel looks great on the website. I just want a nice hotel in a safe area with stuff to do nearby (preferably walking distance). But they seem to charge left and right for everything. Not sure if I can justify the cost. I'll keep the reservation for now unless something else comes along.

Carmen - do you have any other suggestions? TIA

I know I'm not Carmen but I can tell you that the Marriott Stellaris is a really nice hotel and great for kids. I once stayed at the Ramada and that hotel was not great, I do not recommend it.

We are travelling the week of Easter next year and I'm assuming that is why the prices are so high. If that $50 charge stays on there, it will be close to $500 for the night! The hotel does look great though and I think it would be a great start to our vacation. I'll keep the reservation for now. Thanks for your help.

The Marriott Stellaris is VERY kid friendly. Not to mention there are quite a few fast food places in walking distance to the hotel (i.e., Burger King, Subway, Wendy's), and a Starbucks directly across the street for the adults (cheaper than the coffee at the lobby coffee cafe in the hotel). Another thing that the hotel does is they have an empty refrigerator in the room as opposed to a stocked one. Walgreens is directly across the street. We stocked up on stuff for the room.

but this hotel sounds PERFECT! I may find a way to justify the cost. ;)

Is this anywhere near the fort? That is something we would like to do. And what about the coach outlet. :D I'm clueless when it comes to San Juan. Thanks, yet again, for your help.

We are staying there for one night this Sat. and they do charge for children over 12. I had called the central Marriott and the hotel directly. I think its a poor policy, but for us it is only one night. What is Danny's like to eat at? Type of food etc..

Hello! I am at the Marriott Stellaris vacationing as we speak! It's an amazing hotel! The beach and pool are gorgeous, and lots to do. Lots of places to eat in walking distance and Old San Juan is only a $24 round trip cab ride. We're here for the week and the first day we ate here. The cost of food at the hotel is ridiculous. Not to say the food isn't good, but definitely not worth what they are charging. I would suggest hitting up one of the local spots or heading into Old San Juan. We did Senor Frogs and Hard Rock. We've done a lot of the little local places near the hotel as well.

I've stayed at the Caribe Hilton as well and I would choose the Marriott any day over that!

Enjoy!

I'm keeping my reservation. I *might* try Priceline because I think some people have bid and won the Marriott. Please report back when you return with some other local restaurants you tried. We will only be there for one night precruise but would like to try a local place. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your stay. :D

I am so glad to hear you love the hotel! We are going to be there for Thanksgiving and the next day. Please make a list of all the wonderful places to eat. We have an oceanview room, do you reccomend a certain floor or location in the hotel? Is the pool wonderful? Thanks for your input!

We have an oceanfront room as well. We're on the 10th floor and it has a great view. The pools are amazing, but if you want a specific seat get there early. We've eaten at the hotel places, there is a great Japanese place next door called Cherry Blossom, and a 24 hour place down the street that is called Latin Star. They had great food too. There is also a great place across the street. It starts with an M but I don't recall the name. It has great traditional puerto rican and cuban food. In Old San Juan we went to Maria's and had some of the best tacos ever! We also went to Senor Frogs and Hard Rock Cafe. I'll have to let you guys know what else we do, as we're here another 2 1/2 days.
