LornaT Posted June 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Just got this off of the Carnival NEWS on the website: Eight-Day Mexican Riviera Cruises From San Diego Offered Aboard Carnival Pride Beginning In March 2009 06/27/2007 MIAMI (June 27, 2007) – Carnival Cruise Lines’ 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride will operate a series of eight-day cruises from San Diego, Calif., to the Mexican Riviera beginning in March 2009. Featured ports on this itinerary include Acapulco, famous for its sizzling nightlife, excellent beaches, myriad shopping and dining experiences, and death-defying cliff divers; Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, offering a unique combination of a quaint fishing village and world-class resort renowned for crystal-clear waters and gorgeous white-sand beaches; and Manzanillo, offering magnificent beaches and a variety of watersports opportunities. Carnival Pride will operate the eight-day schedule from San Diego March 22 – April 30, 2009 (the vessel will also operate a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise from San Diego departing April 23, 2009). “These eight-day Mexican Riviera voyages from San Diego provide a convenient and affordable option for sailing one of the world’s most beautiful cruising regions aboard a truly magnificent and innovative ‘Fun Ship,’” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO. The 88,500-ton Carnival Pride offers a highly memorable vacation experience, with amenities that include a reservations-only supper club located at the top of a soaring nine-deck-high atrium, indoor and outdoor promenades, and 16 lounges and bars, including an elaborate multi-level theater showcasing lavish revues. Also featured is a wedding chapel, 13,300-square-foot health and fitness center, a full gambling casino, and extensive areas for children’s and teens, part of the line’s top-rated “Camp Carnival” and “Club O2” programs, respectively. In addition to an Internet café, Carnival Pride offers Wi-Fi access and cell phone service. Carnival Pride also offers a wide range of accommodation categories, including several levels of private balcony staterooms and suites. All of the Pride’s 1,062 staterooms feature the Carnival Comfort Bed sleep system with plush mattresses, luxurious duvets and high quality linens and pillows. Prior to the start-up of its San Diego-based cruises, Carnival Pride will continue its current schedule of seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises from Long Beach, Calif., through the departure of March 15, 2009. The new 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor will assume the Carnival Pride’s year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera itinerary beginning March 29, 2009. Reservations are currently being accepted for the Carnival Pride’s Mexican Riviera cruises from San Diego. Prices for the eight-day cruises start at $ 579 per person; the seven-day cruise starts at $479, based on double occupancy. Special discounts for third and fourth guests and round-trip air supplements from dozens of North American gateways are also available.

davidt1968 Posted June 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Carnival lacks creativity. The Splendor is taking over the Pride for the 7 day cruise out of Long Beach. New Ship, same ports. The Pride is going down to San Diego to replace the Spirit(sister ship), to do the 8 night Mexico and will do the one-way Hawaii and do the usual North/South Alaska cruise. Excuse me while I yawn....... The Spirit will probably go to New Orleans or Mobile. Sorry folks, but Carnival is getting to be boring. There are other options on the West Coast. Why can't Carnival break new ground instead of just replacing ships in the same ports of call? I'll admit it, very exciting to see the Splendor coming. C'mon Carnival, how bout a Sea Of Cortez cruise, or a Coastal Cruise that goes North. How about this: Round trip Hawaii or even a round trip Seattle to Alaska. Anybody have any other opinions or ideas for the West Coast? David Upcoming Cruises: Holland America Noordam: Alaska-09/23/07 Past Cruises: NCL Star: Mexico-Apr/2007 Carnival Liberty: Western Carribean-Jan/2007 Carnival Paradise: Baja Mexico-Dec/2006 Carnival Pride: Mexico-Oct/2006 Carnival Spirit: Mexico-Feb/2006 NCL Star: Alaska-Sept/2005 Carnival Paradise: Baja Mexico-Apr/2005 Carnival Pride: Mexico-Sept/2004 Carnival Elation: Mexico-June/2003

sirlostalot Posted June 27, 2007 #10 Share Posted June 27, 2007 I was hoping this would be settled and we would know where the Pride was going next, this looks like another pit stop before it moves to a new run
SouthernCaribbean Posted June 27, 2007 #11 Share Posted June 27, 2007 I was hoping this would be settled and we would know where the Pride was going next, this looks like another pit stop before it moves to a new run Its sort of a domino effect when they make that final announcement. At that point people will be asking about the destination of the ship its replacing. So this gives Carnival some breathing room to shuffle and schedule new itineraries and home ports. davidt1968 Posted June 27, 2007 #16 Share Posted June 27, 2007 No surprise, really. The Pride will stay in San Diego for a few years. It's just taking over the Spirit routes. Carnival made more out of this then really needed. Big deal, the Pride's home port is changing an hour and a half to the south. I would be more impressed with new ports of call. Carnival probably flipped a coin on which ship was going to New Orleans between the Spirit or Pride. Same ship, different scenery.......It's all good, the Pride has established almost a cult following in California. So, it will be over a year and a half until the next Panama Cruise on the Spirit. Same ol, same ol folks. Did you really expect Carnival to get innovative and break any new ground? I'm a Carnival Vet....It's just getting old on some of the ways they do things. Peto Posted June 27, 2007 #22 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Featured ports on this itinerary include Acapulco, famous for its sizzling nightlife  sizzling night life does not start to sizzle until after 11PM . I doubt the ship will port overnight.
LornaT Posted June 27, 2007 Author #23 Share Posted June 27, 2007 If the 7 night in April 09 is the same as Spirit's 7 nights in 2008 she will visit Cabo, Mazatlan and La Paz. My CVS at Carnival is keeping her ear open for me, she knows to hold a cabin for me the minute the announce and open books on a Trans Canal. And I agree, a Round Trip Hawaii on a regular schedule would be cool.
