VanCouver or VanCouver Airport

CAn someone tell me when bidding on Priceline for a hotel in VanCouver should I go to the VanCouver Airport area or VanCouver? What area is the best to stay that is near other places of interest and resturants?

I'm not familiar with Vancouver first hand but from the research I've done for our upcoming cruise I would say downtown Vancouver. The airport is about 20-30 minutes out, while "Vancouver" hotels would be walking distance to many of the attractions that you would probably want to see as well as restaurants.
