Is there only one cruise port in Maui?????

I noticed that Celebrity says on their itinerary Lahaina, Maui, and the car rental codes say Port Kahului (OGG). Is it all the same????

No they are not the same. Lahaina is a tender port and Kahului is a docked port where NCLA docks. You need to get rental cars in Lahaina or the small airport over on the west side of the island. Those two places are quite a ways apart.

Not all rental companies have locations on that side of the island, and you definitely don't want to rent at the Kahului airport ($60 or so for a cab  ).

Here's a thread that may help:

You may also want to use the search funtion for "Lahaina car rental" and see what advice is available...

I have read here that Hertz now has a rental place IN Lahaina. We didn't know about that when we were there in April. We rented from Enterprise located at the Sheraton Hotel in Kaanapali. They provided good shuttle service to their office and back. There is also good snorkeling at the Black Rock at the beach there.

When docked in Kahului a year or so ago we also rented from Enterprise. There office was closer to the pier than the Kahului airport and the shuttle was much less crowded going to their office than the airport locations.

Just be sure if you dock in Kahului you rent from a Kahului car rental company and in Lahaina you rent from one in Lahaina or Kaanapali. Make sure they have a shuttle to/from the pier. Hope this helps. Aloha!!

The Hertz in Lahaina is on Papalaua and about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the tender pier. I've read that they do send a shuttle to the pier. The West Maui Airport designator is JHM. The Enterprise that Bucky3 mentions is also a good choice. It's a few minutes closer to the pier than the "auto row" locations for the West Maui Airport, which is only about 10 minutes by shuttle. Most of the west-side locations close by 5 pm, but many have mentioned that they have after-hours drop off. You would need to take a taxi to return to Lahaina (or the Ka'anapali-Lahaina public shuttle for $1 if renting from the Enterprise at the Sheraton).

Just as a confirmation of what others have mentioned, one reason you absolutely would not use the Kahului airport if you're tendered at Lahaina is that it is nearly a 1 hour drive one-way from Lahaina to Kahului. No car companies send shuttles from Kahului to Lahaina because it's cost-prohibitive in terms of fuel, personnel, and time. Plus, it would take a big bite out of your cruise day.
