Orlando/Florida help

We're sailing on Ryndam to Alaska next year however, plan on taking in Disney :o and New York as well. Are there any locals who can tell me of any school/public holidays in May/early June next year in Florida as this may well be the deciding factor on what way around we do our holiday.

I just checked the school calendar for the Orlando area and the only holiday in May is on Monday, May 26 which is Memorial Day. School gets out June 4. Hope this helps.

Actually for the Orlando area, it isn't just when the local schools are out that affect the crowds, as families go there from ALL over the US/Canada. Several years ago we were stunned during a early November trip to WDW to discover the parks flooded with families from New Jersey. There is a state-wide teacher's conference then. Combined with a 3-day holiday weekend, many, many, MANY families from New Jersey take a few extra days for a week in Orlando.

 

If you are looking to go to Alaska in late May/early June some areas of the country are already out of school for the year (we're done in May). The summer holiday season has already started. The earlier in May the better, crowd wise.

As Mary_Ellen said, most of the kids at WDW in May/June would probably not be local kids anyway. There would be quite a few of them there on "Grad Nights", but those are on Apr 18/19 and Apr 25/26 in 2008. :)

Weatherwise the earlier in May the better. It's hot in May but hotter in June. The later in June the hotter it will be. Afternoon thunderstorms usually don't start until June. May is one of the slower months so you should be able to get better prices on hotel rooms as well.

May is a wonderful month to visit Walt Disney World in Orlando. An added benefit is the Flower show that is held at Epcot in May.
