sailing on crown princess in august with wife and our 2 children 12 & 14.

any tips on staying in touch since they will be exploring ship on their

own with their cousins at certain times? Heard cell phone service is dicey,

was thinking about walkie talkies but my sons like the absent minded

professor sometimes and will probaby lose it since they will be in and out

of pools.any tips?

we just got back from our first trip with our twin boys age 12

i was very worried about this topic also

we took our two way radios and used them the first day but after that i was very comfortable with letting them go from point a to point b and then check in with us...the spend alot of time playing ping pong or putt putt...very close to the pool area...

DH and i mostly sat by the pool with a bucket of beer and relaxed...

we did take post it notes for the cabin so that if we went somewhere we could leave a note letting the other know where we were...

all in all--i was very comfortable letting the boys roam around as long as they stayed together and remembered STRANGER DANGER!

enjoy your trip

I think you are right about the walkie talkies. Very likely they will be lost. When our children were young we did a couple of things. One encourged them to stay with the childrens groups and then had agreed upon times and places to meet them. It worked out well.

The Push to Talk type thing with cell phones don't work at sea. With our boys, we always used the old tried and true methods---stay in the club or with us, learn to use a clock and leave notes in the cabin. We set check in times for the kids.
