Fishbait17 Posted July 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2007 Second time trying to post this so here goes: Booked in an AC on the Jewel Medit on 8/12/07. Got the call today for an upsell and it was a bit too steep. Offered an A3 Courtyard Villa for over $1100 more per person. The extra space would have been nice, but the smaller balcony and our probable non-use of the courtyard made it way too high for this particular cruise (even though it was a LOT less than the original difference in booking). So, while I really wanted an upsell, I turned it down, and decided to spend the money on two fantastic private tours and a bit of casino cash instead. So it seems the upsell fairy is coming about 1 month out for this particular cruise. And FWIW, our cruise had disappeared off the booking engines about a week or so ago, so it must be sold out. Robin Wise decision! Steep price for CV. Use of the courtyard IMHO, is not worth that price. AC's are great! Good luck in the Casino. Enjoy your cruise:)

sneakerstud Posted July 12, 2007 #9 Share Posted July 12, 2007 The CV are wonderful and from your original cabin it is a fair price! Just think how the regular fare would have been to be up there. Otherwise for a port intensive itinerary like Europe, where you really want to see something and do not spend much time up there...I do not know, if I would book a room for a regular price (I would, since I do not leave the ship)...I guess you have done the right choice! 600 Dollars only...whoww...enjoy the Owner's Suite! almtyrob Posted July 12, 2007 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2007 It's good to see that upsells DO exist. I guess they start the process and see what the market will bear. Enjoy your OS.:)

My last upsell was from an oceanview on the Dream to a Balcony cabin. The price was $800 total for the OV and $1200 total for the balcony. If memory serves, the advertised price for the balcony was $1600. We really enjoy having a balcony so the $400 was worth it to us. But when you look at the 50% cost increase I tacked on, it doesn't look good to other cruisers. $800 was a great deal for the OV. That cruise was just the two of us so spending was less without our kids on board. Everyone has to look at each offer as what works best for them. As long as you get what you want, it's always a good deal. :)
Fishbait17 Posted July 12, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted July 12, 2007 If we had been offered the OS instead of the A3, we would have paid the extra ~$2250 in a heartbeat. But I have been in the A3, and frankly think it's a toss-up cabin-wise. Love the A3 layout, esp with 3 people or so (we have only 2 on this trip), but hated the small balcony. Love lounging out on the huge AC balcony, esp at night, but the cabin is a tad small. The courtyard is great during a relaxing Carib cruise, but useless for us on this one. The OS is the best of both worlds (and that's what we were really hoping to upsell to, since they had more of those left a couple weeks ago and no A4s A3s or ABs). Perhaps if had been ~$1000-~$1200 we would have gone for the A3, but $2250 + was just too high.. Robin

I'm sure you will love your cruise in the AC and the balcony:)
avalanche2 Posted July 13, 2007 #16 Share Posted July 13, 2007 I have a AB on the POH......there are Garden Villas left A4 A3 and OS left. What will they offer me? My sister has a AE. what will they offer her?
JACruiser Posted July 13, 2007 #17 Share Posted July 13, 2007 Unfortunately upsells are somewhat random. They could offer you anything from a Garden Villia to nothing at all - in fact, there are some people who have been on many, many cruises and have never once been offered an upsell. The best thing to do is just sit tight, hope the upsell fairy pays you a visit, and if not enjoy your cruise!
