cruisintraveler Posted July 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2007 I am looking to book this cruise very soon. Has anyone been on this that can comment? I really wanted to see more of Greece, but time is short. I'm particularly interested in all of the Shore Excursions - best ones to do or to avoid. And has the coffee gotten any better???!?!! I was on Splendour in Oct 04, Western Med Cruise from Barcelona so am familiar with ship. This will only be my second cruise and I have not been to this area before. Thanks for any of your comments! MercedMike Posted July 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2007 I am looking to book this cruise very soon. Has anyone been on this that can comment? I really wanted to see more of Greece, but time is short. I'm particularly interested in all of the Shore Excursions - best ones to do or to avoid. We loved our Med cruise, although it was not on RCI:o Check out http://www.elite.net/~thehalls/med.html I particularly recommend the guide we had in Athens from http://www.greecealacarte.gr/ Since I am a bit mobility limited, it was really good to be able to climb those 185 steps up the Acropolis at my own speed. The walk through the Plaka was also great with our small group. Our port call in Athens left me wanting to see a lot more of Greece, too. We are going back to Athens for two days before our next Med cruise, and I am working on a week long driving trip from Thessaloniki to Athens via Delphi for my dreams. Have a GREAT cruise! cruisintraveler Posted July 18, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted July 18, 2007 I appreciate the info and name of your guide. On our Western Med cruise (France, Italy) we did have local guides rather than ship tours, and there is a world of difference. You see more, of what YOU want to see, and at your pace. We know so little about Greece and Croatia I wasn't sure I would put all the work into doing that. But may give it another shot with your recommended guide. Thanks very much for responding.:)
SomeBeach Posted July 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2007 I looked in the Roll Call section and only a few people have posted there. You might like to join them tho, maybe toss some ideas around with them. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=557826
Rare kernow Posted July 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2007 We did a similar cruise on Splendour 22nd Oct last year. Living in England we had been to a few of the islands before so just walked around the towns. We had never been to Athens and we loved it there. We caught the metro and found our own way round, its very easy and there are guides at the Acropolis if you want them. There is lots of good advice on the Europe board. Have a great trip. cruisintraveler Posted August 14, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted August 14, 2007 We did book the cruise and are looking forward to it. Have decided to do ship tours on this afterall (not my first choice) - but we are going to have to book tours at last minute due to some other issues. Should be great. Thanks for your advice and tips. :)

I checked out your site that shows your 30 years of cruising. How fun to see you and your wife when you were young and setting off onto your first voyage! :D Thanks so much for sharing!!! :D
