Bishopcfd Posted July 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2007 Greetings, My wife and I are considering a vacation on the Royal Clipper. We are looking at the Caribbean. One of the "attractions" of this ship is the amount of sail that the ship has. It would be great to cruise without hearing any motor noise. With that said, how much actual sailing does the Captain of the Royal Clipper do? I would hate to pay for the experience of sailing and all they do is motor around the islands. porcia Posted July 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2007 Can't say for the Royal Clipper, but we went transatlantic on the Star Clipper, we were under sail about 40% of the time. It is outstanding when those sails billow out and off you go.
robbie21 Posted September 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2007 We've been on the Royal Clipper twice. Sailed a lot in the Carribean but not so much in the Med. The Captains seem to prefer to sail when they can and the iteneraries are set so that they are usually not in a rush to get to the next port so they have the time if the wind cooperates. chicagogal Posted September 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We did the Star Flyer and I would say maybe 50% was under sail in Asia.
MrsWaldo Posted September 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2007 We did a sail in the med and we were under sail 90%... sometimes we sailed in big circles so we wouldn't be in port too soon. TBH...the captian will choose sail wherever viable as this is the most cost effective...
thrpy Posted March 23, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 23, 2008 We did the cruise in Dec '05 out of Barbados. Most of the traveling between the islands was under sail. It was fantastic, the first night out when they play the music and the saild are going up is unbelievable. Thought you might like some pics. http://community.webshots.com/user/thrpy
