Cabin Door Decor

Everyone is so creative, I'm inspired!

We are going on the Oasis 9/24 (yippee!) and I usually put a magnet from a past trip on my door with a paper under it so we can coordinate with out travelmates in other rooms & each other...you know - like: "at pool deck til 3" "in casino...you know where"... And the magnet makes it easy to find our rooms, since all the doors look the same.

But I really like the idea of personalizing it....and I have painter's tape!

Thanks, this was a fun thread!

snip... I am also taking some of the 3M double backed sticky tape that removes with pulling the tab to release it. This may work better than the magnets as they do tend to shift when the door is open and closed.

Last year I used Blue Tak (don´t know what it´s called in US) on doors and walls to attach info sheets, maps etc

So how do you attach door decor?

I saw some people said they used magnets - does this mean the doors are made of metal?

Are you allowed to use things like packing tape? Or would we be better to use something like blue ticky-tak or command adhesive hooks?

Sorry if my ignorance is showing...

Last year for Christmas we decorated our cabin door. Both my husband and I celebrated our birthdays and our annivesary on this crusie so the door got rather full before the 15 days were up.

I tried to attach the pix. Hopefully it worked. Sorry about the pic being sideways.

Just found out they are having a door decorating contest on the Kiss Kruise Oct 13th. I have no idea what to do!! Any ideas? I used to use paint shop pro for graphics but just got adobe photoshop and haven't figured it out yet. wish I could figure out how to take a picture of the Carnival Destiny and add 'wet wild & rockin Kiss Kruise' to it and put the members of kiss on deck. Or try to make an insignia for Kiss Navy. any help will be greatly appreciated!

I just came back from a cruise on the Disney Dream. We decorated our door, first time. I made name plates with the mickey heads from home depot paint dept and laminated Disney pictures that we colored in. There were tons of door decorated on the Dream though. People went all out!

I *LOVE* door decorating... its almost the first thing I do when I get on the ship... while my husband unpacks, I go and decorate the door... I'm not crafty so I usually get tropical party decorations from a party store... You can usually get a table "decorating kit" for well under $10 that will give you more than enough to do a great job on your door...

Here is a sample, like when we went to Hawaii we did this theme: http://www.partycity.com/product/hawaiian+luau+decorating+kit+9pc.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&from=Search&navSet=tropical+kit

You see how the hula girl has the honeycomb paper that goes all the way around in a circle to stand her up? well, if you only open it half way, you stick the flat side to the door and then you have a pretty 3d decoration, LOL..... you can do that with any table decoration that has that honeycomb paper stand... same with the parrots, only open the wing on one side, then stick the flat side to the door...

I love these party kits, I use them for almost every cruise I've ever been on... You can get a mexican fiesta one for a cruise that goes to mexico.. or a palm tree/tropical fish one that goes to the Caribbean etc etc.... the possibilities are endless...

Look at this adorable birthday one: http://www.partycity.com/product/cupcake-balloon+wall+magic.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&from=Search&navSet=mexican+kit&category=Decorating+Kits&

I use blu-tac to stick them to the doors... http://www.blutack.com/ you can get it at pretty much any party store and a lot of regular stores like target, walmart etc... comes off without a mark and sticks really well...

Also, you can use window clings to decorate your cabin window/sliding glass door and interior mirrors etc... I also sometimes used theme confetti to decorate the countertops... (don't kill me I swear its a lot cleaner than it sounds and I am very careful to clean up before we check out so not to cause extra work for the steward!!)

Definitely have the decorations already packed for our Panama Canal Christmas cruise. When I solo cruised over Christmas out of Singapore in '08, I came back several times to find candy and even dollar bills stuffed into my "Mermaid" stocking on my door. I was very impressed as there were very few Americans on board, mostly Asians. Of course I gave it all to my Cabin Steward. This time my 6 year old nephew will be along, so I got things for his door as well.

I created these designer door signs for the Meet & Mingle guests on our upcoming Royal Caribbean cruise. They were made especially for our Alaska Southbound sailing.

I decided last minute on our last cruise to decorate our door for new years. I bought window sticky type clings and attached them and taped the garland with "magic tape" it didn't hold and I had to constantly redo it but it didn't damage the door. For our next cruise I'm going magnetic.

I used to live in Australia. I think you could use Koala's, Kangaroos, The Sydney Bridge and Opera House, Luna Park, Q1 Building, Surfboard, etc. Depends on where you're cruising. Fair warning, most Aussies don't get into the spirit of cabin door decorating, so your door will stand out. Go for it!

Awesome! Did you use an electronic cutter like a Silhouette or Cricut?

Yes! I used my handydandy Cricut. I have a side program that goes with it so Im able to convert pretty much any image and turn it into one that my cricut will cut!

And thanks...Im proud!:p

On a Christmas cruise I took a cheap artificial green wreath and tied hard candy and other wrapped candy to the door and then hung a pair of scissors from it and a note that said Merry Christmas help yourself. Everyone loved it. I loved hearing people stop outside our door and their excitement over getting a piece of candy.

What a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing.:):)

I hope to do this with either candy or mini-ornaments on my December cruise.
