If the ship docks in leith, ocean terminal is around a 3 - 5 min walk away If it tenders I have no clue). As for busses, the 22 departs every 6 mins during peak time, and every 10 mins off peak. Other busses depart Ocean Terminal for the city center also.

Bus fares are quite low in Edinburgh. A 'day' ticket on the 'Lothian' bus company vehicles which operate a very, very extensive network will only cost 2.50 GBP ($5). This will allow you to use any of the services on the whole network as many times as you wish for the whole day. Their website is http://www.lothianbuses.co.uk/

I think the ticket is only valid after 09:30 and can be bought on the first bus you catch (ride). I guess someone living in Edinburgh may give us the latest information.

You will find Edinburgh a very compact city and many of the sights can easily be reached on foot and by bus. The central tourist information office is just off Princes Street (the main shopping street below the castle), near the Scott memorial. They have lots of information on where to visit. So, hop on a bus from Leith Oceanliner terminal, pick up the leaflets and enjoy your day.

At risk of "thread drift," is there any bus service from the tender dock at South Queensferry into town? Seems to be right by the railroad bridge. I know about the train from Dalmeny, which seems to involve a lot of walking and climbing stairs, and I'm looking for an alternative.

Not sure where tender docks but you can find details of buses from South Queensferry to Edinburgh at http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/scotland/sescot/timetables/timetableindex.php

Scroll down to Service 43/X4/X43 and click on "Monday to Friday", "Saturday" or "Sunday" as you require.

The locals will tell you where the nearest bus stop is for that service. The best value will probably be a "Firstday" ticket which allows unlimited travel on "First" buses for the whole day. The 2 zone ticket covering the journey to Edinburgh costs £5.00 (I think). It can be purchased from the driver but you will need the exact total money as no change will be given.

All other information can be found at http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/scotland/sescot/fares/firstday.php

and navigating from that page.

Trains are quicker. The Scotrail timetables are at http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/content/timetables/index.php

Scroll down to "Fife Circle" (7th service) and download the timetable. Navigate the same site for other information about your journey.

Both services will take you to the centre of Edinburgh. Waverley railway station is immediately below the Castle and the bus will drop you at the end of Princes Street, alongside the station.

Enjoy your visit.
