Stupid Princess...I wanted to surprise my husband!

I thought it would be cool and romantic to have some canapes and champagne delivered to our room the first day of our cruise (19 days!! woot!). So, I called Princess and waited on hold and went through the whole process of ordering them. Then she tells me that they can't actually deliver the order, they have to deliver a card telling us what it is, then we have to place the order with our steward or go to a bar to get it. Stupid!! My co-worker told me that she had that done on RCCL (the way I wanted to do it), but apparently Princess is incapable.

Try this. Don't pre-order. Use one of the house phones to discretely call in your order for a time when you'll both be in the cabin. Or maybe you can do this from your cabin phone while DH is in the shower and he won't hear you.

It might sound stupid to you, but there are some good reasons it is done this way. First, the card just signifies to your steward that the order has been placed. Second, if you are running late, you don't want canapes drying out and possibly spoiling in your cabin. Also, I would guess that liquor orders cannot be delivered until the passengers' ages are verified. Just a hunch, there. Hopefully you can still make this work out and sorry for your frustration.

Actually they are not incapabale. You stated you could do it by placing the order through the room steward. It can be done, just not how you want it.

 

Try excusing yourself from the room and placing the order and it can still be a surprise. Also, try going to princess website and look at the gift order form...you could send yourself a nice welcome gift and it still be a surprise and special. This close to the cruise, you may have to fax in the order and Im not sure if you get to decide when to have it delivered. Good Luck!

Thanks M&M, but that still won't accomplish what I wanted to do, which was to have it show up unannounced. I might be able to do it when I get there by excusing myself and calling from a house phone, but that will be tricky. This just would have been a lot easier!

I just talked to Princess and she said that the gift card is for the spa, casino, etc and that the champagne would be delivered to the dining room unless otherwise indicated. The canapes would be in the room upon arrival.

I'm going to think about this - because I really want it in the room when we get there.

On our Caribbean Princess cruise in April I ordered the guacamole, chips & salsa using the order form on the Princess website. I put a note on the order form "please deliver on day of arrival" and faxed it to Princess. It was delivered the day we arrived with no problems at all. Although, if you do order in advance they charge your credit card the day you fax your order--if it is a surprise you may want to wait until your sailing is closer.

 

When my parents went on their cruise we sent them champagne & chocolate covered strawberries but did not specify a delivery date so they did receive a card stating what the gift was and to call to get it delivered. Hope this info is helpful and good luck with your surprise.:)

I pre ordered liquor on our Crown Princess Cruise and ended up with a card in my stateroom. We tried for the first 2 days to have it delivered, but they were too busy. Don't tell me my bottle of Rum would have dried out. I thought it was ridiculous. Any other time i have ordered liqour or a bar set up it has been there when we boarded.

If you are referring to my earlier answer, read what I said. I didn't make a "ridiculous" statement. Who wants a plate of soggy and warm shrimp waiting in their cabin? Yummm...:p

 

Policies concerning alcohol have changed, on most lines, and seem to get a little tighter after each high school spring break season. Blame the cruise lines, yes, that makes sense. :rolleyes:

 

The OP got her information from a friend, so there's no telling how current it might have been. Now, if she really wants to surprise her husband, I can make a few suggestions. :D

Maybe things have changed, but on the last 3 Princess ships I was on in the last 3 years, I called in my order a couple of weeks before we sailed...wine, flowers and canapes and told them exactly when I wanted them delivered to the room and it happened without me having to chase them down.

I agree with Rob's statement. We were to have a sailaway party on our balcony and I was a little put out to find the cards in our room upon arrival; but I simply handed them to the steward and the food (and drinks) were there before we could get unpacked. Later I decided that it would not have been pleasant had our food been sitting in the cabin for an our or two awaiting our arrival.

I had chocolate covered strawberries waiting for me on arrival. I unpacked as I ate them and then thanked the steward. He was suprised since they were meant to be for the room next door - oh well!

We sailed with friends from past cruises on the Grand last March, and we planned a little sailaway party on one of the balconies. We must all think alike, because we all thought to surprise the rest of the group with chocolate covered strawberries, cheese and crackers, and fruit. You've never seen so much food for 8 people in your life! We all got the cards notifying us of the gift. At first there was some confusion. Everybody thought the orders were messed up as we had all ordered for others but not ourselves. Once we figured out what we'd done we had a good laugh...and a LOT of fruit!:D

One of the perks our TA offered was canapes in our room upon arrival. They were there when we arrived on the Dawn Princess and they were good but I did feel that they had been sitting there a little while. I'd rather have them freshly made.

In May 2006 on the Golden, I ordered champagne for my cabin and friends cabin and it was chilling in our rooms when we arrived. I did this over the phone, as I waited long to do it via fax. It was nice to have a little champagne sail away on our balconies.

Perhaps, you should call again and speak with a more experience person. I ordered several canapes, flowers, fruit and cheese trays last year for some of my travel-mates and I had no problem whatsoever. Everyone was so delighted. They were delivered as requested! i've ordered things and requested for departure day and they have always been in our room on arrival or shortly thereafter.

 

Also during our last cruise i was so happy my husband agreed to go after me nagging him I wanted to do something special so I planned little surprises for everyday of the cruise.

 

Every morning I had a card for him.... usually cute, funny and even some that played music just to show him how much I appreciated him.

 

And then I had little gifts for him everyday too. Little things that you would maybe put in a Christmas stocking. A golf magazine, soaps, golf balls, massage oil.

 

he still talks about it.

My partner organised flowers and Moet as a surprise for me embarkation day in Sydney on the Sapphire (it was my birthday).

 

When we got to our cabin, there they were - the Moet in a beautiful silver ice bucket with two "congratulations" flutes and a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

 

They were definitely not stupid!

Just call room service and tell them what you want and when--very simple--we had champagne and canapes waiting for us when we returned from an excursion--all you need to do is to tell them what time and what day--I was concerned about these items sitting out in our room--no problem it was delivered on time--maybe 5-10 minutes before we returned to the ship
