Bermuda in 2005 on Voyager?

Hi

We're thinking of going on the cruise out of Bayone, NJ next June.

It's only 6 days , 2 of which are in Bermuda. Anyone else taking that cruise?

I have been there before on Celebrity for 7 days but would really like to

take the Voyager. I just don't know if 6 days is long enough. My friends

would rather go for 7 days on the Norwegian Crown or Celebrity. Neither

one of those ships can compare to the Voyager from what I have read.

The Voyager cruise to Bermuda in 2005 is only a 5 day cruise - not 6. It leave Bayonne at 10PM on Sunday - arrives in Bermuda Tuesday morning at 7AM and leaves on Wednesday at 5PM - arriving back in Bayonne on Friday morning. It is a short time in Bermuda compared to other cruises but if you really want to sail on the Voyager this will be your only option in 2005

Well, Voyager will be docking at Kings Warf necessitating a ferry ride to Hamilton or a bus ride to St George (Voyager can't fit into the other ports) NCL Crown has the best interary stopping in all three major ports.

 

Burmuda is a different type of cruise, with most people going to see the island and treating the ship as transport and a floating hotel. Voyager seems, well, oddly placed in this regard. If the onboard experience and shows are important, and the island a nice 2 day diversion, Voyager is the way to go. If you want great food and more time on the island take one of the Celebrity ships. If you want to see alot to the island and be flexible on your dining, NCL is your choice.

I went to Bermuda 20 years ago - not much of a night life but a beautiful island.

 

My husband and I do a 4/5 night cruise every July for our anniversary without our kids. The only cruise available without air has been Canada. For us, Bermuda is a nice diversion (and my husband has never been there).

 

In other words, WE"RE BOOKED for July 10, 2005.

We're booked for Oct. 2005 - on VOS - My husband things it will be a good introduction to Bermuda -- He likes a balcony and a newer ship -- I get alot of motion sickness on the smaller type ships.

If we love Bermuda - we will just have to go back!

jhaasz, we will also be on vos july 10. me my husband and 2 children. we also have a lot of friends and family going. we actually have 35 rooms booked. i was on voyagers 9 day to carribean in may. i loved that ship so much i told all my friends and family about it noww they want to come. i chose bermuda because i have never been there before. i heard it was beautiful but not alot for the kids so 2 days is perfect for us. i am looking foward to being on the ship again. lying in the sun having a cocktail, seeing the shows and being with my friends and family.

 

patsicruiser, from what i understand you can see bermuda in one day.nothing will compare to the 9 day trip on voyager. but 6days will be enough for me as long as i'm on voyager. alot of things to do . i loved the shows. we saw 2 a night. portofinos was excellent.

That's so funny - we are going on the 9 night cruise on August 27th (only 7 days to go - gotta get packing :)).

 

For our 9-night cruise, we have a great group of people from these boards going - perhaps we can get a roll call going on the Roll Call Board and have as good as a response.

 

It will only be my husband and I - leaving the kids home for this one.

patsicruiser, have a great time on voyager. i loved that ship. we will definately have to do a roll call. we are bringing the kids. maybe one of these days we will leave them with grandma. they are 11 and 9. there will be a lot of kids on our bermuda trip. so they will keep each other busy.

Hi! it's mary from the VOS 8/27 roll call--well you figured that out already! We have done the 7-day to Bermuda 10+ times. I love Bermuda! 2 days is way too short, BUT if a 5-day is what you can do, it's a GREAT choice. Talk to me (yikes--next week, how cool is that?) and I can tell you lots of stuff. The only bad thing is that you will love it and want to come back for more!

This is quite a dilemma. We love Bermuda (have cruised there 4 times) and the Voyager is such an incredible ship. But unfortunately there are 2 drawbacks -

1) It will only be a 5 night cruise which doesn't leave much time in Bermuda.

2) It will dock only at Kings Wharf which IMHO is the last place I'd want to spend any considerable amount of time.

 

We've sailed to Bermuda once on the Norwegian Crown and all I can say is that I wouldn't sail on NCL again, especially that ship, even if it was completely free.

I'm going on the Voyager to Bermuda on June 12th with 5 co-workers. 5 days to Bermuda is fine with me. Since I'm going an an 8-day cruise in March on the Queen Mary 2. The Voyager will not seem to be an overkill.

We have been to Bermuda many times and will also be on Voayger to the carribbean on 8/27/04 thie year and June 26th next year.

 

I agree with the other posters that 2 days is not enough time for bermuda. It is a beautiful island, with great people and lots to do....If you want to really experience the island I would do the seven day Celebrity to St Georges and Hamiliton...Kings Wharf is on a the other side of the island and you need to take the bus/ferry to get to Hamiton and St George. I am doing the VOS to Bermuda next year simply because it fits into the travel schedule of other familiy members.

 

I think Bermuda has the osme of the best beaches in the world and does over a lot for everyone. Regardless of when you go I would highly recommend Hartleys helmet dive...(you do not need experience or even be a swimmer to do this) it is something that so far is unique to Bermuda .....

 

 

Anyway I hope this helps....

Just a side note....someone mentioned about shows....unless something has significantly changed under Bermuda law cruise ships are not allowed to present "professional" entertainment while docked in Bermuda...In the past weve gone out to clubs (yes there is a nightlife) on the nights that we have been there...

 

Also the Casino will be closed....

 

Still, a great island and lots to do....

Just to clarify what I mean by "professional" entertainment...Bermuda Law does not consider ships crew to be entertainers...therefore shows put on by the ships singers and dancers (considered crew) would be allowed, shows with headliners (i.e oldes groups,guest performers or comedians) would not be allowed... and I believe that this is still the case (and I could be worng)...this applies to all cruise lines... on my many cruises to Bemuda...one of the nights would be passenger talent show...one night would be a ships show the at sea nights have the "guest" performers, You might want to check with RCCL about the entertainment....the point I was trying to make is that the original poster noted they enjoyed the entertainment a lot and it might limited on the Bermuda run...

We did see professional entertainment on our May cruise. There has been a change to their previous venue. This was the first Bermuda cruise (14 or so)that we had more than the usual (Passenger talent show, Quest game, Not-so-newlywed game, etc. (were still done)) while in port. Some changes have occured, no idea if it is Bermuda that has allowed the change...? But a definite difference. We did not take note of if it depended on which port.

We were on the Empress of the Seas in May 04 (8 night).We had "professional", not crew entertainment, on 2 of the 4 nights we were docked in Bermuda.

We are booked on the Voyager for the 5 night Canadian cruise, Sept. 19th, which is a new itinerary to us after 10 Caribbean cruises from Ft. Lauderdale. We are considering the Bermuda cruise on the VOS next year in a concerted effort to avoid flying from PA.at all cost. This is, in order to avoid the frustrations and indignities flying and the airlines subjects their passengers to.

I don't particularly like sailing to Bermuda to"park" for a few days. Been to Bermuda, it is horribly expensive. If you are not a beach person good luck. I hope RCCL comes up with a new solution for Bayonne travelers. Seems a shame to "park" that big beautiful ship. Choices are coming I hope.

Wish they would reposition the Grandeur out of Baltimore and replace it with another ship, like the VOS for instance, going to the Caribbean. Of all the RCCL ships we have been on, the Grandeur was the worst. Tattered and torn, sewage and plumbing problems galore. Wheww!

We are also on the 6/12 cruise. I realize that 2 days is not long enough but it will still be great. On most cruises you only get about 8 hours

We love Bermuda (have flown)! Gorgeous - pink sand, turquoise water and white-glove clean. Bermuda is also a very conservative island.

 

We're going on the Grandeur in 2005 for the 5 day from Baltimore. I was lucky enough to book a Jr. Suite on the aft corner through an internet company who has temporarily ceased booking RCL cruises, and I'm really looking forward to it. So glad I got in before all the brouhaha about discounting began.

 

Yes, the time in Bermuda is limited, however, DH and I rent a moped (he's a great moped-on-the-opposite-side-of-the-road driver), I hop on the back and we tour the island from one end to the other. He has no idea I've booked this cruise. He's been dying to go back to Bermuda, so I'm sure he'll be pleased when I tell him in Sept-Oct of next year ;). In November, the temp will be 75-80 degrees - perfect for us.

 

Yes, Bermuda is very expensive. Before booking the cruise, I searched websites for hotels, etc. Just two nights in a 4-star Bermuda hotel plus meals and airfare, costs just about the same, if not more, as this 5-day cruise.

 

msjeanne1 - I've read nothing but wonderful reviews about the Grandeur. She's supposed to go into drydock in October (I think) for some refurbishing. I'm surprised to hear that you found the Grandeur terrible, tattered and torn. :eek:

Hi Cindyscruise, We are in Columbia, will be at the beach next weekend. I will also be on the 6/12 cruise, along with my parents (who stay down at Myrtle about 3 months out of the year) and my 15 yr. old neice. We are looking forward to it, even if for just 2 days in port. Like you said, you normally only get a day or less in the ports. I wish it were June 2005 now!!
