gregsnap Posted July 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2007 We are on the Tapestry (Amsterdam - Basel ) in Oct of this year. I need to know what time the ship docks in Basel and what is the earliest they let you disembark? I need to buy early train tickets to Milan so I need to make sure we can be at the train staion by 6:30 or 7am. I also need to know how far the train station is from the Avalon Dock in Basel? I assume I can get taxis that early in the AM... Can someone help? Thanks...
zxcvbnm Posted July 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Here's a map of Basel, and it shows the three main railway stations; Basel Bad Hbf (the station to Germany, top right.) Basel SNCF (to France, bottom left) Basel SBB (to Switzerland and Italy, including Milan, bottom left) http://switzerland.isyours.com/images/rg.maps.basel.pdf We were just on that trip and we took a taxi to Basel Bad Hbf. They told us the Tapestry would dock at 6am, but it fact it had docked at five or earlier, certainly before I woke up. It might be that six am was the earliest they could guarantee letting you leave, bearing in mind customs/immigration formalities etc. The previous day, they compile a log of taxi requests; name, cabin number, time, and destination. The taxi then came for you with no further ado at the appointed time. Our taxi ride, to Basel Bad Hbf, took ten minutes at the most. So I'm guessing yours would take about 25 minutes at the most. I think where the Tapestry docks is top left, possibly just off the map. Hope this helps - have a great trip!

zxcvbnm Posted August 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2007 The driver quoted the price in Swiss Francs, then converted with a pocket calculator when I told him I wanted to pay in Euros. It was 13 euros... Have a great trip!
