Rental car shuttle service Port to FLL

I have thoroughly read the other posts on renting cars one-way in Florida to Port Everglades/FLL area. Thank you for all of the information!

For anyone who has rented a car, pre or post cruise at the Fort Lauderdale airport rental center:

How is the shuttle service between the port and airport? If we drop off our rent a car at 10am at the rental car center FLL, how long will it take to turn in the car and get the shuttle to the port? Are the shuttles crowded and is there a long wait?

Likewise, when we get off the ship at Port Everglades, will we find it easy to get the shuttle bus to the airport for rent a car pickup? Do you need to call ahead?

We just came off the Caribbean Princess a couple of weeks ago and we saw the Thrifty bus several times while waiting for our hotel shuttle to pick us up. Once, we also saw a full sized bus that seemed to be affiliated with several rental companies. This prompted me to question the service you received from Port to Airport rental center or vice versa.

There are 5 in our family and the flight into and out of Orlando is just too much cheaper and nonstop to boot so flying straight into FLL is not a viable option. We also will stay one night in a hotel pre cruise so having a car will be helpful with shopping or dining.

Thank you for any information about your rental experience.

The FLL rental shuttle to Port Evergaldes is painless.

Follow the overhead signs at the airport to the return location. All of the rental companies at FLL are housed in a central garage each with their own express return area. The return process takes 1 minute. Enter the lobby of the building and make your way to the floor where the shuttle runs.

There is signage at the shuttle pick up as well as on the shuttle to distinguish the port shuttle from the terminal shuttle. The Port/Airport authoritry opperates the shuttles. The shuttles run full, in my experiance standing room only but the number of passengers depend on how many show up at the garage at any particular time. There are staff on hand to assist in loading and unloading and a tip will go a long way in getting your bags on quickly.

The port shuttle makes its rounds to all of the terminals at the cruise port. The total transit time is about 1/2 hour assuming your stop is the last.

After your cruise there is no need to call the rental car compnay. The shuttles start running at around 9 AM.

Thank you for the information!

We are thinking about booking with Dollar as they have the best deals we can find on a full size or higher category.

We will just try to get to the rental center at the airport no later than 10am. Guess we will have to be careful with the full shuttles and make sure we get all our luggage!

We will be cruising on Princess. Probably the first or last stop since it is on the end of the port area.
