how much money do i need

Recommended Posts

Are you using a credit card? If yes, then it will be charged to that. There are very little use of cash on the ship. Bingo and casino are two places that come to mind otherwise everything in on your seapass card. For the ports I figure a 100$ a day for incidentals, souvenirs, etc. I also bring small bills to use in ports since many of the locals will say they don't have change.

If you prefer to use cash, the cruise tip calculator will help you figure out how much you need to bring for that. If you prefer to charge tips to your shipboard account, then it will show you the amount that you will be charged.

I've also got a simple Excel spreadsheet set up that may help you budget. It can be found on my Cruise Tools page. I tried to include sections for most of the major expenses, and of course you can customize it as you see fit.

My husband and I spent right around $1000 on our account when we took our first cruise (8 nights) in February. That did not include excursions though. We also budget $100/day/person on any vacation we take, and we stayed right around that amount (when you figure in the excursions).
