curlerguy Posted August 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2007 We have just booked the Island Princess for January 26 / 08 and are # 41 on a waiting list. Why would there be a waiting list already for a cruise 5 months from now and what are our chances of actually getting on the cruise? This will be our 5th cruise and the Panama canal is one that we've both really looked forward to.?
Toto2Kansas Posted August 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2007 Why a wait list? Because ships are selling out way in advance anymore. Will you clear the waitlist in time? Well, that won't be known until final payment is made on your cruise. With so many past princess cruisers using FCC's to book now, it is so easy to 'hold' a cruise with FCC's and then change your mind before final payment and have the FCC's redeposited back to your account, or redirected to a different ship and sailing. I think the only way Princess will be able to get this booking thing under control so this doesn't happen as much is that if FCC's are used for a booking, and that booking is cancelled before final payment, the FCC's are not put back into your account, but the $200 credited back to your credit card and you loose your FCCs. That, I think, would keep many from booking a cruise just "in case" they might be able to sail and therefore leaving more cabins open for those really intent on sailing on these ships. IMHO of coarse. :) I would guess you will probably clear the list and make the sailing, but as time grows closer to final payment, that will give you a better idea if that is going to happen or not. Best of Luck on this one!

Just happened to us. We booked a cruise for October 4th (last week) on the Diamond, 15 days Hawaii R/T Los Angeles. We booked AFTER final payment, were #16 on waitlist and got a cabin within 48 hours. You never know. So much can happen between now and final payment; you'll most likely get something.
