New TSA security procedures

This was just e-mailed to me. Thought I would pass it on..

Please note that effective 12:01am, August 4, 2007, TSA implemented new

checkpoint security screening procedures that will require passengers

to remove large electronic items, i.e., video games, and DVD and CD players,

for separate screening like current procedures for laptops.

Unfortunately, TSA did not provide the carriers with much advance notice,

so please pass this along to your travelers to make them aware and help

them plan accordingly for this new requirement.

Thanks. From the TSA website:

Video Game Consoles

Effective August 4, 2007, laptop computers, full-size video game consoles (for example Playstation®, X-box®, or Nintendo®), full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassettes have long been subject to this policy.

What Needs to be Screened Separately

Laptops

Full-size video game consoles

Full-size DVD players

Video cameras that use video cassettes

CPAP breathing machines

Small and portable electronic items do not need to be removed from their carrying cases.

You scared me for a minute until I read FULL SIZED. So the portable DVD players and gameboys my kids bring can stay safely in their backpacks when we go through security? I just keep thinking of all of the things I have to pull out to begin with...we are already a mess at the security check points with strollers and other kid supplies.
